Health insurance that is. Only a 21% rate increase this year. BCBSNC.

With this increase it has gone up around $110 per month since I took the policy out 4 or 5 years ago. Time to find another option. What is everyone else doing that buys their own insurance?

I already have a $1000 deductible and I think I went to the doctor about once per year for minor things like ear infections. Most expensive ear drops ever.

Yea we just had a meeting about that about 3 weeks ago. We could either stay with that plan or we could opt to do an HSA plan.

I was highly upset

I think I'm just going to cancel my policy today and start shopping around. I'm just sick of it. I think it went up $30 per month last year and now it's going up another $40 starting in January. It's ridiculous. They say that all their rates are going up 8%-10%, but mine is going up more because I'm in a new age bracket. And my company's insurance is crap, but I might enroll in it as a "better than nothing" option if I don't find something else I like more.

[no] cancer plz.

And if private companies are doing this poorly I'd hate to see the government try to run it.

My rates are going up 15% this year with my company. I am still way better off with the insurance offered by my employer than going on the outside, but still a 15% increase in my monthly rate as well as increases in the deductible and out of pocket max make me

if you only go to the doctor once a year, you're better off just paying cash for it.

I also have a job with benefits, but when almost every other employee in the company is over 45 years old and the company isn't doing much to subsidize it a young healthy non-smoking male can buy better insurance for the same price or less than the company's group rate.

At least, I could 4 years ago. Now I'm having to rethink that position.

They're probably jacking up prices while they can because they know their little cartel is going to end once Obama wins.

you probably wont find too many rates better than BCBSNC out there. The wife and I just changed over from my company plan to BCBSNC.

Its not like BCBSNC is the only place with a rate increase. Its across the board.

if you want the premiums to go down, tell every deadbeat you know to pay their medical bills, because we are basically paying for them now with these ridiculous premiums

There a lot of people giving opinions on this topic that are very misinformed. BCBS of NC is one of the most expensive companies in the state. There 3 or 4 other options that are much better and will save you $100's a year.

For example, a 30 yr old female was pay $320/ month at BCBS and I was able to set her up with Assurant Health for $226/ month. The benefits were exactly the same except that the rate for Assurant was locked in for 24 months.

Use this link to see if you could be saving money.

Shoot me a message if you have any questions.

Pretty much everyone who buys their own in NC has BCBS.

^ Thats true but they are wasting money. There are other carriers that offer better prices but because BCBS does so much advertising people assume they are the only game in town. They arent and they definetly are not the cheapest.

My insurance premiums are only going up 3% this year, so i am pretty happy.

I have a HDHP with an HSA. The deductible for my entire family is $2200, then it is covered at 90%. The premium for my entire family (Me, wife, 2 kids) is $350 a month.

I have an HSA (Health Savings Account) with BCBS. I have a $2500 deductible and pay less than $80/month. I pay everything up to the $2500 and nothing after. But since I go maybe once a year it's worth it. I just put away what I'd spend on a more expensive plan.

Great thing is, there's no limit on the policy. I could have a $700,000,000 medical bill and I only pay a max of $2500 a year.

But you know what? It definitely makes me shop around when I decide to go to the doctor. I call around now when I need to get an x-ray for a possible break. I think if more people did this, it would go a long way towards lowering health care costs by increasing competition.
