So I read through the HTC Touch thread and picked up a couple things there but I am not interested in a touch screen phone, I like tactile feedback for using the phone on the go. While I like the blackberry pearl and curve I don't think it is worth the additional monthly cost to me.
Criteria: Decent camera Ability to get pictures off of phone without too much hassle >$200 (preferably >$150) ability to insure a plus (I work around water) small(ish) form factor. The full feature PDA phones are great but a lot of them are just too big for me. The Curve or something not much bigger is about the max size I want to carry. Ok web browser to occasionally check email
Right now I am leaning towards the Samsung Alias, but I don't know how hard it is to get the pictures off of it or how the browser is.
also, i am not decided on any specific provider. 10/15/2008 6:35:00 PM |

No experience with the first 4, but if you want to choose between w580 or w760, I would choose 760 unless you are too worried about size. Both are excellent phones and I have carried both. 10/15/2008 10:34:27 PM |

dont fucking bother with a blackberry unless you're using it with a BES server at work. And then only get one if your company is paying for it. 10/15/2008 10:40:42 PM |

Have you played with the Shadow? I know you like windows mobile, and I had no problems with my old windows mobile phone.
How is moving pictures off of the SE phones?

When you connect an SE phone to your pc it looks like a storage drive so photo/music transfer is very easy. If you are really concerned with pics you may want to get a cybershot phone. But the 760 definitely takes better pictures than the 580. I would post some but :

connect with BT? connect with USB cable? 10/16/2008 9:27:34 AM |

I always connect via USB cause it's faster but if you connect via BT you will need a program like My Phone Explorer to mass transfer unless you only want to send one file at a time. 10/16/2008 9:31:16 AM |

BT or My Phone Explorer? BT yes, My Phone Explorer no. MPE is an awesome free program that can be found here, http://www.fjsoft.at/en/home.php . 10/16/2008 10:00:21 AM |

It is the standard SE cable, it should be included with the phone. 10/16/2008 10:53:17 AM |

The SE w580i can be gotten for free at Best Buy w/ 2yr contract through at&t. It comes with a color-matched antenna/hands free mic (for fm radio), color matched in-ear headphones which plug into the antenna and a usb cable. I got the red one a couple months ago and love it. Holds up to 4GB memory stick micro card. Camera is good (2mp) but not the best for a cell phone as stated earlier. I recommend it. 10/16/2008 12:52:41 PM |

I got the Shadow, $50 (Free after rebate)
This thing is great so far. T-Mobile really polished WM6. A lot of my little complaints about WM in the past have been addressed. There are still a few minor things I don't like now, but I just need to download a registry editor to take care of those. The keyboard on this thing and the predictive text is the best I have used yet. Photo quality could be better, but its ok.
I have 45 days to decide if I like this. If I change my mind I am going with one of the SE's. 10/16/2008 5:59:14 PM |

day 2 update: I really like this device. I was worried at first about being limited to edge, but it is fast enough for what I need and wifi works great on it. I could probably write papers on this keypad, its great. I've added flash support, so now I can watch videos on the go. 10/17/2008 12:26:50 PM |

Thought I would add a comment: The phone still works great. Last night I was in an apartment with someone who had a T-Mobile blackberry and had no service. I had full bars. I wish the WiFi reception was a little stronger though, but it is decent. Outlook on the device works no problems, have the phone on our exchange server so I get all my email pushed to the phone. I still think the keypad is the best on any device I have used yet. 12/15/2008 12:05:00 AM |
