i took her up to my parent's mountain house in western nc to go look at the fall colors. they have a good bit of land up there and also have some nice trails to hike on all over the property. i took her on one trail that leads up to the top of this ridge to a shelter that has a fireplace, a picnic table, and an awesome view of the sunset.

we built a fire, drank wine and watched the sun set over the mountains. just before the sun disappeared behind the mountains i proposed. she always knew we were going to get engaged sometime, but wasn't expecting it that night. totally caught off guard, she got all emotional and of course said yes

the caretaker and his wife were in on my plan, and while we were gone went to the house and dropped off a meal for 2 i had ordered, and decorated the whole house with roses and candles. after a romantic dinner, she spent the next 3 hours on the phone with her friends and family. a man of tradition, i had already asked her father for his blessing, so he already knew about it.

we're not rushing the wedding, probably sometime in 2010 after she finishes school. there will most likely be 2 ceremonies, one in the us and one in europe. apparently our mothers are already talking about some of the plans
