Quote : | "Halloween Palin Prop Sparks Controversy In WeHo WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) ? A Halloween decoration showing a mannequin dressed as vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin hanging by a noose from the roof of a West Hollywood home is drawing giggles from some passers-by and gasps of outrage from others.
The mannequin is dressed in brunet wig, glasses and a red business suit. Another mannequin dressed as John McCain emerges from a flaming chimney.
Chad Michael Morisette, who lives in the house, told CBS 2 News that drivers and bus passengers have been stopping to snap pictures of the macabre scene.
Morisette says the effigy would be out of bounds at any other time of year, but it's within the spirit of Halloween.
He says "it should be seen as art, and as within the month of October. It's Halloween, it's time to be scary it's time to be spooky."

What do yall think?
As disgusting as it is, I think it ought to be allowed. The guy who did it is a total douche, don't get me wrong, but, well, it's protected. And to be fair, I'd say the same thing if it were an Obama effigy.
Have at it!10/28/2008 8:19:14 PM |

Very tacky.
I have mixed thoughts mainly because if it was Obama on a noose it would clearly be construed as racially motivated.
On the other hand I understand the argument that is is in the spirit of halloween. Maybe the mixed answer would be do something that doesn't involve the bloody history of our past, like waterboard them? 10/28/2008 8:25:04 PM |

So was the point of this thread really to discuss the limits of free expression?
Or was it to justify devoting an entire thread to whining about Obama "crazies." 10/28/2008 8:39:42 PM |

ummmm, it doesn't matter if a gov't entity is forcing him to remove it. you are trying to hedge this towards an avenue that I wasn't looking at. My topic was pretty simple: what do you think are the limits in this situation? 10/28/2008 9:06:17 PM |

we already talked about this days ago, aaronburro. whats your point for dragging it out again in its own thread?
are feeling sad and blue about how McCain has flushed his campaign down the shitter?
I guess you must be. I mean he's got JOE THE UNLICENSED PLUMBER runnign around the campaign trail, telling folks that a vote for Obama equals "Death to Israel"
what, isn't Palin running around talking batshit crazytalk enough for them? now Joe the Plumber?
I mean even FOX News, for chrissakes, cant even handle it anymore.
hey, maybe i should make a new thread about Joe the Plumber talking crazy talk, to the point that Fox News has to distance themselves with a disclaimer. because god knows no one is going to find that BURIED in the other running threads, like where that Palin-effigy story is.
hey, lets use this thread to revisit any story currently being talked about in another thread, that way no one will ever miss any story!!
this will be fun! 10/29/2008 2:32:41 AM |

^ Is that true in all cases?
If there was a crowd of KKK members that gathered in some big city and chanted "Kill all Muslims/Blacks/Jews" for hours and hours for several days, and then a bunch of Muslims/Blacks/Jews are massacred in that state for a month after the gathering, wouldn't the KKK members be indicted for inciting violence?
I am sure in Europe they would be, and I have a feeling in the US as well.
What if they shouted "Kill Bush"? Would that be protected as well? 10/29/2008 6:04:51 AM |

speaking of hanging a black man:
Two arrested after Obama effigy found on campus
Quote : | "Two men have been arrested in connection with an effigy of Sen. Barack Obama that was hung outside a building at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, police said Thursday. Joe Fischer, left, and Hunter Bush were arrested on disorderly conduct and other charges, police said.
Authorities found a life-size effigy of the Democratic presidential candidate hanging from a tree outside the school's Mines and Minerals building on Wednesday morning, police said.
Police said they arrested Joe Fischer, 22, a senior at the university, and Hunter Bush, 21, a former student at Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
"This was a serious incident. It caused a lot of wounds to be opened from racial tension," Monroe said.
After following leads and conducting interviews, investigators determined that Fischer and Bush had asked members of a University of Kentucky fraternity for items to make the effigy but did not tell the fraternity members why they wanted them, Monroe said.
Fischer and Bush were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, burglary and theft by unlawful taking, police said. The burglary and theft charges involve allegedly removing items from a room in the fraternity house.
"We had a pre-established dialogue with this fraternity, and they spoke to us very openly and freely," Monroe " | Granted this is on public, not private property, but it was bound to happen.

so they're being arrested for "stealing stuff" from the fraternity? Sounds like the fraternity members are covering their asses. If they're being arrested for putting it up that sounds like a double standard, unless there's some law against doing it on public property. 10/31/2008 10:29:52 AM |
