So, recently my laptop has decided to crash constantly.
It will be running just fine, freeze, and then show the blue screen of death with the message
Quote : | "*** Hardware Malfunction Call your hardware vendor for support NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error *** The system has halted ***" |
How fucked am I? I'm working entirely through an external keyboard, so here's a description of the problem I messaged my friend:
TheNCPeter (11:37:44 PM): its definitely hardware TheNCPeter (11:37:53 PM): like TheNCPeter (11:38:24 PM): earlier the display would all of a sudden have horizontal flickers, as if you were dragging a magnet or something along it TheNCPeter (11:38:31 PM): and then just crash TheNCPeter (11:39:23 PM): just a bita go when it was on the blue screen, it would turn the monitor off depending on the angle bigoleacsenior (11:39:44 PM): thats odd TheNCPeter (11:39:51 PM): so i found an angle where it wouldn't flicker or turn off and propped it up with a pad of engineering paper TheNCPeter (11:40:17 PM): right now i have my external keyboard hooked to it and not even touching the desk
Computer is a IBM Thinkpad T43p running XP. Pretty sure I don't remember smashing it...out of the ordinary...recently.10/28/2008 11:43:18 PM |

i've had this problem on a couple of thinkpads.
running memtest didn't help in my case.
the only thing i hadn't swapped out was the motherboard and hard drive.

Well
now my laptop doesn't work. It would be good, and then go to a blue screen with the same error as above. However, today it started giving a 'UNMOUNTABLE BOOT DRIVE' or some shit. I tried to do the onboard recovery checker, but the system froze >_>
I tried to take it apart and wasn't very successful on getting the keyboard off, so I might try harder tomorrow. However, now it doesn't boot up. When I power on, the screen stays black. 10/29/2008 11:23:18 PM |
