The point of this thread is to draw attention to the fact that if Obama was hanging from a tree there would be a massive investigation. This is the same concept as a white candidate using the term "typical black person" like Obama used the term "typical white person"

if hanging Obama actually lands one in jail (I can't reference a case of this happenning) - it's probably because it is viewed as a threat on his life.

Why is it that hanging an effigy of a black man would be seen as a threat? Is there anything in history that would suggest this could in fact be a threat?

I am pretty sure that in this country, white people have hanged more white people than black people. So the history of the act is insignificant, it's the intent of the act that makes people see it different.

Most white people that were hanged were being punished for crimes. Most black people were just victims of racial hatred and ignorance.

I think the intent of the OP was not to point out something new and exciting. I think the point is that if it were Obama (or any other black effigy) that was hanging, it would be immediately assumed to be a racist act rather than some expression of a political opinion that is in the spirit of Halloween.
