chainlink never needs cleaning, but looks like crap
wood will need sealing, but looks the best imo
vinyl can just be washed with a pressure washer and some bleach. expensive, but looks pretty good. some folks think it looks cheap, but i like it.
i vote vinyl 11/16/2008 1:21:01 PM |

i was thinking vinyl too, because it's solid (i.e. not see-through) and doesn't rot out
i dunno the price comparisons or install differences between them though
does raleigh have any sort of fence height regulation? 11/16/2008 1:33:27 PM |

probably only have to deal with a HOA if you have one.
otherwise, i'd imagine you're good to go.
[Edited on November 16, 2008 at 3:50 PM. Reason : chain link is $texas because metal is pretty high now. vinyl is expensive, but worth it imo] 11/16/2008 3:48:52 PM |

Wrought iron fences are actually aluminum. I don't think anyone actually installs iron fences these days. You can find more information and some pictures at http://www.harrisonfence.com/alum.php
I got a wood fence from Harrison Fence. My friend is actually an installer for them so I got a really good discount. Richard, if you mention my name I am sure you'll get a really good deal too. 1/16/2009 11:11:14 PM |

The cost of wood vs. Vinyl is why most people choose wood. Wood requires more maintenance than vinyl. For a good budget, check out Lowes' prices on installed fence. Keep in mind that gates, corners, etc. will cost extra. 1/17/2009 8:04:44 PM |

^ second, Wood all the way. If you can't paint/stain/seal if ever few years you dont deserve a good looking fence anyways, come on big man.. step your game up
