do you enjoy it? is it 'the one'?I enjoy what i currently do, but it in no way relates to what i want to be doing plus there doesn't look to be any room for upwards movement. I give it another year, tops.
11/17/2008 12:26:04 PM
I always pictured myself traveling from town to town in a van with friends solving mysteries, so no.
11/17/2008 12:27:41 PM
its a good job. I enjoy it most days. I can't see myself doing it forever. But i don't really have any true ambitions so when people ask what i'd rather be doing i have no idea. i'm not one to make drastic changes and life decisions so i'll probably be here for a good while
11/17/2008 12:29:44 PM
i don't think they make 'the one's anymore. here today, gone tomorrow. rinse, repeat
11/17/2008 12:38:41 PM
graduate assistantships = easy work / good pay / study for 20 hrs a week
11/17/2008 12:46:12 PM
I like it. Lots of room for growth.I could see myself staying with the company forever....but not this location.this may change though.

I Hate it and would never stay with this company as long as some of these people have (they're pretty complacent) It's not the industry/sector I enjoy, and I can't wait to find a new job.I really want to go to grad school too [Edited on November 17, 2008 at 1:05 PM. Reason : e]

my wife goes to grad school at University of Washinton. full time tuition paid, 20 hours of paid assitantship per week at $20K / year.
11/17/2008 1:07:29 PM
Job A) if i got paid like $3 more an hour i wouldn't complain at allJob B) its just fine wish i had more time to work it.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.
11/17/2008 1:08:22 PM
It's alright. I'm doing a little more receivables work than I'd like at the moment, though. The hours are fine since I'm contracted at an hourly pay rate (~35 a week since I'm in school, the $$$ is good considering it's on hourly). On a side note, if anyone knows of any openings in the Triangle for a Finance MBA, let me know! (yeah right, in this market). I'm moving in like 6 months after grad school and will be "in the market."
11/17/2008 1:12:03 PM
no more cali?(that is where you are, isn't it?)
11/17/2008 1:13:20 PM
Yup, Bay Area...I just came out for a contract job and grad school... The plan was always to move back to Raleigh when my g/f and I finished grad school... I just wanted to try and live in another part of the country and since a lot of my family is out here I gave it a try. Now, I've lived everywhere in the country I had a desire to (fuck the midwest).Didn't want to even TRY to start my career out here with the cost of living... plus, I'm an East Coast person all the way.
11/17/2008 1:18:04 PM
my job kicks ass until it gets cold outside. like right now
11/17/2008 1:30:20 PM

11/17/2008 1:31:12 PM
I hate itPeople treat me like shit for things that aren't my fault and I have to stand up for way too long.Makes my feet hurt.

11/17/2008 1:55:10 PM
It's much better than any I've had in the past (I haven't been yelled at for being a woman!!), but it's certainly not what I want to stay in for the rest of my life.
11/17/2008 1:57:14 PM

meh, underpaid, underworked, duke doesn't pay lab people shit.... i could do the same job i do right now for a private company and get paid 20-40% more off the bat, but the major issue with that is job security, so now definitely isn't the time to be looking(currently Data Manager/Coordinator for a set of labs doing human HIV vaccine endtrials testing)

So far so good, 3 weeks into it. Low stress, high salary pay, great benefits. It's not neccessarily my career, but at 26, it's pretty fucking tight. My last job was high stress, mediocre pay, mediocre benefits, and some of my co-workers weren't even college graduates.[Edited on November 17, 2008 at 3:43 PM. Reason : -]

My current job is pretty boring. Most days I have less than 4 hours of actual work. However, I prefer having nothing to do, rather than having a full work load. It does leave a lot of time for farting around on the internet. I share Jeepin4x4's lack of ambition. There's room for advancement in my line of work, but I don't want the responsibility and longer hours that come with a higher-paying position. I think I'm better off now making 30K a year and only doing about 15-20 hours of real work per week than I would be making 50K and working 50-60 hours.I hate having to be in this place all day, 5 days a week. I'd much rather be traveling, going on cruises, or just loafing at home. The only thing that sustains me is the possibility of winning the lottery, or at least getting a decent inheritance when my wife's grandparents kick off. I hope they don't have extensive hospital or nursing home expenses in their final years so there'll be more left over for us. If we got a million dollars, we could live modestly without working if we could invest it and get a 4-5% annual profit.
11/17/2008 3:50:39 PM
i'm pretty sure i'm in the right fieldi just wish i got a little more respect and a lot more money
11/17/2008 5:49:28 PM
I like it well enough, but this isn't "it."I make CD-ROM discs for billing (with a Rimage Autostar 2), and am learning the other computer room operations for massive bill printing. Lots of downtime and the fat years of overtime have passed given massive client attrition and now a fair amount of employee attrition too. Sure has me keeping an eye out for what's next.

It's great when I'm not getting roped into projects I thought I was done with. I love the people I work with.I know I'm not getting paid what I'm worth, but that's part of paying your dues when you decided to be a dumbass as a kid and not finish school. If I get them to pay for me to finish school, I'm sure I'll be put into some sort of contractual obligation the work there for X number of years... there are pluses and minuses to that.+ I'll have my degree finally- I'm seriously tired of this whole area and want to go "home" to England.
11/17/2008 6:28:33 PM
