Highway Patrol targets fast holiday drivers

RALEIGH, N.C. — Thanksgiving holiday travelers should keep an eye on their speedometers because the North Carolina Highway Patrol says it will aggressively enforce speeding laws across the state until Nov. 30.

The patrol said it will be conducting a similar slowdown operation like the one in April in which 11,241 drivers were charged with speeding.

Local law enforcement officers also will take part in the enforcement to catch speeders on interstate and major four-lane highways.

The patrol said speed is the primary cause of traffic accidents and fatalities and that speeding citations have increased during the past five years. The patrol said citations for speeding higher than 100 mph have risen 175 percent since 1999.

Drivers are encouraged to report speeders.

If I get pulled over for doing my usual 10 to 12 over, I'm going to be pissed since apparently there are assholes driving over 100 mph in the area.

last night, i was trucking along 40 to get off at the lake wheeler road exit...i was going ~85mph

i didn't recognize the headlights behind me, but they were coming up pretty fast, so as soon as i got around the guy on the right, i moved over

it was a state trooper in a charger, and he just barreled on by me and didn't give me a second look

aha, though some knucklehead slaloming through heavy traffic at 80 (in a 55/45) deserves a ticket....

EXACTLY, THE CAUSE OF ACCIDENTS IS SPEED, BUT NOT IN THE CASE OF POLICE OFFICERS BECAUSE THEY'RE IMMUNE TO THE EFFECTS OF HIGH VELOCITIES.

I CAN'T STAND THE ATTITUDE A LOT OF POLICE HAVE ABOUT DRIVING. THEY THINK THEY'RE THE ONLY PEOPLE ON THE ROAD WHO CAN DRIVE AT HIGH SPEEDS AND CAN RIDE YOUR ASS WITHOUT HITTING YOU. I GET TIRED OF POLICE RIDING MY ASS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEN FLOORING IT AROUND ME AND SHIT. IT'S JUST AS DANGEROUS AS WHEN ANYBODY ELSE DOES IT.

THE BEST PART IS THAT IF THEY FUCK UP AND HIT YOU, THEY'RE GOING TO CLAIM THAT THEIR LIGHTS WERE ON (HELL, THE MAY TURN THEM ON RIGHT WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENS) AND THAT IT'S YOUR FAULT.

haha. coming to work monday, I filled up off of S. Saunders and had a cop in front of me turn his lights on and turn left and immediately pull into the dunkin donuts off of S. Wilmington St.
