I'm not paying this much for cable/internet. I've had this special for a year and I would like to continue paying the price I've been paying for the last year.

Should I cancel my subscription then have my fiance sign up so she could get another deal?

What is the best way around this?

I use Charter (I live in Harnett County) and they signed us up for a special a few months ago after we lost internet for two weeks. The guy I spoke to told me to call back when the special runs out and they are usually willing to sign you up for another one. Just call Time Warner and ask if you can sign up for any deals.

Just cancel it and sign up again yourself.

I just did this myself and they pretty much told me to do it again next year.

"Let me just delete your account from the system then set you up with a new one here with the special."
"What will my price be when the special runs out?"
"We'll worry about that when the time comes." *wink*

^I will try that.

I need cable and internet.

Technically I don't really need internet. I could steal internet from at least 3 different people in my building. I don't want to be "that guy" though.

AT&T's U-VERSE will be hitting the area next month!

They will be a great competitor for TWC... Might not be much cheaper, but you will at least have options.

Time Warner is all about trying to sign you up for a 2 year contract like the cell phone companies now. If you bitch enough you'll get a decent deal without signing the contract, but never as good as that introductory offer. The difference between Time Warner and the cell companies is that they are not giving you any gear (like the free cell phone). Their service sucks so bad now they are losing customers like crazy. I guess they think that once you sign the 2 year contract they don't have to worry about treating you like shit any more. Because giving decent customer service is so 1990's.

1) downgrade to rr lite 768
2) wait like a week
3) call back and ask for sales and get new customer special on standard speed

I heard you have to wait 30 days (without cable) to be eligible for a special again.

Ever since I went with the 8300HDC box, I don't think there is an hour that goes by that the image doesn't pixelate. I've had to resort to downloading The Office and 30 Rock the past two weeks because of TWC issues. It's real fucking frustrating and the sat companies aren't any better as far as getting a deal without a contract. I'm trying to hold out until January for U-Verse to hit and then I might jump ship. TWC is finally waking up to the fact that they have competition here as they are adding many HD channels (though, this only merely almost catches us up to the number of channels a lot of other big markets have), but if the damn service is blocky and inconsistent, I don't give a damn how many channels I get. And no, I'm not trying to fuck with you sending techs out here and me having to go to your office and swap boxes out like that really is going to make a diffence. Fuck TWC. Fuck em right in the ass.

They don't make you sign one. They just won't offer you a decent rate without one.

U-VERSE is AT&T's TV and Internet service.

Its all IP based.

And yes its delivered into your home over COAX, but delievered to your home with existing twisted pair. The Twisted pair is a short run to the VRAD's that its all fiber optic from that point on.

Hope everyone spreads the word, and this is the reason that TWC is trying to get everyone to sign the 2 year contracts...

You guys be glad you don't have to deal with Comcast. Their user interface for the guide and DVR is absolute shit compared to TWC.

I just told em straight up I'm a student trying to lower my budget and I may have to cancel unless they give me a better deal. The first time they talked me into doing RR lite, which sucked balls, so I called back, told them verizon internet is cheaper and faster (its the phone provider here in durham), and they gave me a decent deal. Also, ask them if the bill will include any extra fees or taxes-- make sure they take those off as well.

1: Get DirecTV
2: "Borrow" WiFi from your neighbor.

TV + Internet for $50 a month.

^^ get your parents to get DirectTV with an extra box for $5/mo and get a satellite dish off craigslist. Pay them $5 (if they're stingy).

^ I have a friend that is going to do that with me. He wants DirecTV, so I told him I would give him my extra box and he can just split it with me. So, I am soon going to have TV + Internet for $25 a month.

I'm in the same situation... needing a new TWC deal. I called up the sales rep for my area and basically I'll only save about $10/mo to get the new customer promo and keep my current service. She suggested I call and ask to speak to customer retentions and see what they could offer me. TWC sucks! I'd love FiOS though!

Wait for U-Verse. They just signed a lease today in Raleigh and are interviewing people to start working (I was their broker). I believe that they'll launch their campaign the end of December or early January.

U-Verse will allow one DVR box to be used by 4 TV's simultaneously. You can record up to 4 channels at a time, watch the same show at different times (up and downstairs while fast forwarding independently), can access your DVR remotely to watch shows remotely and can also log in remotely to record a show that you forgot to. they should be $20-30 less than time warner and will not have any delay when you change channels. This is pure digital. You can go to AT&T and watch the U-Verse trailer.

I love Direct TV.

I think the UI of the twc boxes was a lot nicer and the menus responded faster but other than that its the bomb.

I probably should have mentioned that I have DirecTV and just use TWC for standard cable in the bedrooms and RR.

If that AT&T service is so much better than I'll wait.

I'm not in a hurry to get cable back. I just want to watch the last episode of True Blood on Sunday then I'm good.

I know several people who have gone through several boxes. All of them ended up freezing and pixelating. Get that junk replaced.

DirecTV already does this, but to be fair; they install a pretty expensive and immovable satellite dish on your house/lawn.

I just dropped off the box at Time Warner. Looks like I'm going to get Direct TV or wait to get that AT&T package.
