so i went to the doctor for a 6 month physical thing, and he threatened me with dropping dead due to high blood pressure.

i have to check my blood pressure daily now.

i think i was just really stressed out this morning, the top number stayed the same and the bottom went from 68 in may to 98 now. seems really weird

anyone else about to drop dead?

I took a dump this morning that went down the hole, then curled around counterclockwise and back into the same log forming a lower-case "b." All in one solid log. I was impressed.

You might have to give up drinking. Alcohol raises blood pressure dramatically.

I have Stage 2 Hypertension. I too have to check my blood pressure daily, and have been put on Lysinopril. Kinda scary shit, considering my dad died of heart failure.

^ I also quit drinking and cut out all the salt.

i try to stay away from medication unless i really need it.... so i'm going back in 3 months with a chart of my daily blood pressure and working from there.

actually im going back soon for a cholesterol thing, so if its really bad still i might get on something then

^what is normal?? he did seem really freaked. i guess the bottom number is up almost 50%

Mine usually hovers around 150/90. As I have gotten back in shape it has been down in the evenings now. My Dr. thinks that once I drop about 20lbs and continue to eat better then I will be able to go off the medicine

back in hs my blood pressure use to always be like 155/70 or so...they told me it was kinda high but i told them i lifted weights a lot

my friend back home had to take blood thinners...one time he cut himself and it wouldnt clot cause his blood was thin...he ended up putting a cigarette butt out on the cut to stop the bleeding...the scar was pretty righteous

They should have put you on at least a thiazide diuretic if you've tested Stage II like that 2 or more times. Esp if lifestyle modification isn't working. Or did you tell em you didn't wanna go on any drugs yet?

Was that the first time your BP was tested that high? Usually you have to test high on another visit or two before they start you on drugs.

120/80 is 'normal', but most doctors won't tell you that b/c patients sometimes take that as a reason to be complacent with their lifestyle.

Lysinopril is good. Cheap too, $5 a month on my insurance.

Sorry I edited my post. So I wouldn't worry about not getting meds quite yet I don't think. Esp if it's not that high while you're monitoring it.

yeah, the only reason they put me on drugs right away was because of my family history.

Lisinopril is also one of the $4 a month ones at Walmart. It is what I am on.

you would be amazed how much cutting out salt and booze has done for mine. If I can just drop these 20lbs I should be good to go and get off the medicine.

The first thing you should do before taking drugs is lifestyle modification. Do you exercise alot? Watch your diet. Lifestyle modifications can reduce 5-10 % of your BP.

I would add drinking pomegranate juice has helped my bp, plus you feel better. Must be a chemistry thing.

You should also cut back your meat consumption, especially red meat if you eat a lot of it. Try getting more protein from fish and beans.

I have the inverse problem

but Lipitor works wonders, and I've never had high blood pressure

don't freak out about getting your cholesterol tested, it's easier to deal with

my blood pressure has always been a touch on the high side, but they always attribute it to white coat syndrome. Then here the past 2 times I have been to the Dr. it was really high. When I told her about my dad's heart problems, they decided I needed to get it under control.

Stay away from Gatorade and the likes too, esp. if you are not sweating a lot. A guy I work with drank it just to be drinking it, and he about stroked out one night. The doctor said all the electrolytes in his system caused his BP to spike. Only drink that stuff if you are working hard, sweating, etc... at least that is what he said his doctor told him... he also smokes a LOT of stuff too so I don't know if that had anything to do with it
