I know it's a bit early to speculate, but should we beat Miami, I'd go to this bowl.
Quote : | "How about a trip to Washington for the N.C. State football team?
That’s a possibility, a spokesman for the new EagleBank Bowl confirmed Tuesday morning. The new bowl, which will be played Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. at RFK Stadium, will feature Navy against an ACC school. RFK seats 46,000, bowl spokesman Shaun May said Tuesday.
May said the EagleBank "would love" to have N.C. State, in part because the bowl would be only a five-hour drive from Raleigh and would be accessible for Wolfpack fans. He said the bowl expects Navy to bring a strong crowd.
While the EagleBank might sound like a low-level bowl, the game would have some appeal for the Wolfpack and its fans. Tom O’Brien played football at Navy, which would give the game a good storyline.
NCSU is 5-6 overall and 3-4 in the ACC. State needs to beat Miami on Saturday at noon to be eligible for a bowl. The EagleBank Bowl has ninth choice among ACC schools. The game will be televised on ESPN." |

After this start, I don't give a damn what bowl game they put us in...
Aug 28 @South Carolina Lost 0-34 Sep 6 William & Mary Won 34-24 Sep 13 @Clemson Lost 9-27 Sep 20 East Carolina Won 30-24 Sep 27 South Florida Lost 10-41 Oct 4 Boston College Lost 31-38 Oct 16 Florida St. Lost 17-26 Oct 25 @Maryland Lost 24-27
If we can take care of business on Saturday, this team would be happier than hell to go to a bowl game, and I think we would put on a show in DC attendance-wise as well. Not a bad drive up there and a good bit of NCSU alums around DC/VA.
GO PACK

I agree with your second statement, but why should we decline an invitation? the most important part of going to a shitty bowl is the 20 or so extra practices that would be crucial in getting us ready for next year. the bowl itself is meaningless other than the trip and swag for the players. 11/25/2008 12:20:58 PM |

You should never decline a bowl invitation.
The extra practices really do help when you have a young team. And if you've got some recruits near the DC area, its nice to get them in to see the team and coaches more.
And its always nice to tell recruits that you went to a bowl the year before as opposed to saying you didn't...whether you turned it down or not.
And there's always the added revenue. 11/25/2008 12:37:17 PM |

I went to a few Mets-Nats games in RFK. Crappy ass stadium. Even 3/4 full for a baseball game the beer line was INSANE. The stadium sections shake when something good happens. There is NOTHING around it. It rained hard every time I went.
The new Nats ballpark is $$$ though... 11/25/2008 2:09:23 PM |

Most teams lose money or barely break even when going to Non BCS bowls
It wouldn't be a huge travel expense going from Raleigh to DC
but whichever ACC team draws the Boise straws will probably end up 6 figures in the red11/25/2008 2:27:48 PM |

i hope State does make this bowl game. I'm already going to it as a Navy alumni, and my brother and our good friend (both state grads) will be there with me. maybe i could do one of those half navy/half state shirt things 11/25/2008 3:41:51 PM |

Good seats still available! Probably right up until gametime...
I'd be down to go, drive up and back the same day, spend $75 on a ticket. We'd probably lose though, I wish we got to trade one of those losses for a loss to GT so we'd have seen the option. 11/25/2008 7:27:42 PM |

I'm there if we play in DC. If we take care of business Saturday, I'm not convinced we are the 9th ACC team to be picked by a bowl. Considering no team will do better than 5-3 in conference, why wouldn't one of the middle tier bowls pick a 6-6 school that finished on a hot streak and travels well over say, a 7-5 Wake Forest team (if they beat Vandy) or even a letdown 7-5 or 6-6 Clemson team more concerned about who their next coach will be? We could get the nod over the Maryland-BC loser, considering their respective fanbases. Maybe we fell off the radar screen early, but I tend to think a solid win puts us in play for anything below the Gator. I think Champs Sports in Orlando takes GT, Miami, or FSU. That leaves Meineke (Charlotte), Music City (Nashville), Emerald Bowl (San Francisco), Humanitarian (Boise), and Eaglebank (DC) as other viable options.
On the other hand, I'll take Eaglebank against Navy in DC over the blue turf Humanitarian Bowl any day, and a last minute SF trip on December 27 isn't going to be that practical for most fans this year.
How would you like to be a MAC team, when the best you can ever hope for is Christmas in Detroit? 11/26/2008 5:15:30 AM |

Clemson has to win against South Carolina and get to 7 games b/c two of their 6 wins are over DI-AA teams and you can only count one of those wins toward bowl eligbility. 11/26/2008 8:15:52 AM |

Yeah, but it's a 5 minute walk to the metro which gives you access to the entire city. I stayed in Arlington for the US National Soccer team game a month or so ago and I had almost forgotten what it was like to be in a city and be able to take the metro and walk everywhere. I love it.11/26/2008 9:32:38 AM |

i agree. we've gone to some higher bowls than other teams/fans might expect simply because of the fact that these bowl organizers know that nc state fans don't mind traveling and we will spend the monies.11/26/2008 10:56:42 AM |
