for Thanksgiving lunch with my family.

A cultural immersion experience for them, that the College of Textiles has facilitated for foreign exchange students.
I'm actually kind of excited.

Yeah, they have it in Japan too but that doesn't mean it's anything remotely close to our Thanksgiving

Such vitriol

^Already looked into that. Was assured they'll eat whatever's given to them; no food allergies or dietary restrictions.

weird.

i've never met an indian with no dietary restrictions, of some kind... the level varies as you'd expect.

and i've spent a whole lot of time with indians the last few years.

That's pretty shitty of them to wait so long to inform you. Most people have already started their shopping for Thanksgiving by then.

You gotta do pumpkin pie!!

It wasn't the students who waited so long.
It was a faculty member. Surprise

It's very likely they know more about American culture than you might realize, so if you are not already planning to do this, I would treat them like they know what's going on, until they look confused, to avoid making it seem like you're talking down or mocking them.

One of the biggest fans of NC barbecue I've known was a guy from northern India.

This guy from south india will burn bridges over barbecue preferences.

I don't care for people who hate on eastern NC barbecue.

I would have loved mushroom gravy

I have never tried cranberry sauce

I ll wait for next thanksgiving and 'd like to join ambrosia1231's family

and I even forgot we usually make a few vegetable side dishes like corn, green beans, and asparagus

stuffing varies a lot from family to family. It's a baked dish with soft crumbled bread and usually vegetables and butter. Other than that, people put just about anything in there. We do a vegetarian stuffing but you'll often find sausage or other meat. It's called "stuffing" because in the old days, you would stuff the turkey with it before baking. Most people don't do that anymore, just bake it separately.
