I turned on my xbox thursday or friday and found that it had one red ring in the lower right corner. It's the E 74 error, which means that either the HDD, AV cable, or AV plug is broken. I'm pretty sure its the plug on the back of the console, because the red light does not come on when the AV cable is out but the HDD is in, and other AV cables cause the red light also.

I have no idea how much it costs to fix this problem, but I'm just going to sell all my stuff.
The console was purchased last October from the Walmart Super Center in Brier Creek and has never given me problems before this.

I looked on ebay and just the broken consoles (without HDD) are going for around $50, so I was thinking around $40 for the new CoD and $20 for the other games would put it at around $170.

Of course I know that what things should go for mean nothing on here, so bid away!
I will consider splitting all of it up, but I'd like to see if there's interest in the whole package for a while.

I sold one of my broken xbox 360s for $120 on ebay last fall. It was just the console with nothing else.

There are ways you can fix this. I've heard you can wrap it in a blanket and leave it on for a long time to fix it. Either way, mine did this a couple weeks ago (the one red light error) and I sent it in to Microsoft saying it had 3 red lights and they fixed it for free. I didn't pay any money even for shipping and it was fixed in about 1.5 weeks. It's worth a try if it's still under warranty.

^Warranty is three years, if the console has the 3 red lights (which can be obtained by wrapping the console in a towel and running it for hours). The only consoles that don't qualify for this are launch consoles which expired about 2 weeks ago or so

Yeah, they definitely extended the warranties to 3 years on all of them I think. Possibly not the newest ones. You can check pretty easily on the XBOX website to see if yours is covered though.

And just to clarify I heard the blanket trick actually fixes the one red light problem (although I've never heard of it working as a permanent solution).

I had the E 74 a few months ago. The problem isn't your cables. Your GPU is fucked up. Play a game long enough (if you can get it to run) and youll start to see all sorts of crazy shit on the screen.

Alright so after trying to take this shit apart by myself and realizing i couldn't do anything and voiding the warranty in the process... first person that buys me a 12 pack of magic hat #9 can take the box only (still works, but has the one light error).

first time I turned on my 360 there was a E74 error. I unplugged the AV cables and plugged them back in and it only came back like twice in the year that I had it. I can't believe you were willing to sell it just because of that even though your warranty was extended. THEN you went and opened it up trying to fix it like you had any idea what you were doing.

The e74 error doesn't necessarily mean that it's as simple as a problem with the cables. It's usually a problem with the sodering around the GPU loosening after the console has overheated (usually due to MS's faulty X clamps causing the heatsinks to lose contact with the CPU/GPU over time).

You just got lucky if it was the cables.

BTW I'll give you $30 for the hard drive if you ever remember you started this thread.
