So I am peeling one and I get into the discussion with qntmken about how awesome they are and I would eat them all the time. He refuses to eat them because he claims that it is not worth eating. He says the return on investment is not sufficiently high.

thats bananas...b-a-n-a-n-a-s!

lol NERD

Honestly, pomegranates are the shit and the rewarding burst of flavor in every bite makes the peeling process worth it.

He wouldn't think that if he knew that pomegranates are one of the healthiest foods out there.

(look up ORAC values of fruits/veggies on the interweb)

I don't like eating the white seed part. I used to spit those out, but that sucked, so now I just eat them and don't like it.

its not too cold in north carolina. my mom has a pomegranate bush that had a few pomegranates on it this year. they were pretty sour though, definitely not a commercial cultivar. the fruits are smaller too.

Conisdering the ratio of ORAC value to time needed to eat, I would say the ROI is below average, but definitely not atrocious.

I can clean them pretty quickly. They're a great return on investment if you don't suck at taking them apart.

Here's the recipe:
# 1 1/2 cups pomegranate juice
# 2 ounces vodka or white tequila
# 1 ounce Orange Cointreau liquor
garnish with pomegranate seeds

I was hoping it would use pomegranate schnapps. I have a bottle of it that I opened and think I've only used once. I am sure google could help me out though.

[Edited on December 2, 2008 at 9:54 AM. Reason : plus it also has zero nutritional value!]
