I'm trying to get a decent audio set-up with my computer and I was wondering if any of you guys could throw me some pointers. As of now all I've got is an iMac with your run-of-the-mill logitech 2.1 speakers; the sound is decent but I'd like something better.

What I would like is a capable 2 speaker setup with a receiver inbetween the computer. Does anyone know of any good setups? Is this a good idea or are there better ones? I'm a bit of an a/v noob so I'm open to any advice. Thanks.

If you use an actual receiver, you'll simply need a cable with an 1/8" headphone jack on one side and black/red RCA ends on the other ("Y cable").

For speakers - if you're looking to spend low, you cannot go wrong here:

(the RB-10 or the RB-51)

Also, if you're only doing music listening and other true stereo tasks, consider a passive subwoofer (as opposed to an active one, which plugs into the wall) - they're usually cheaper and provide a much smoother response at the frequency crossover point than in a setup with a powered sub.
