I just installed a Tom Woods SYE kit on my NP242 transfer case for my cherokee.
I cant get it to shift into 2wd now that i've bolted everything back up and filled with fluid.
There's still room for the shift lever to move, but it feels like it's bending the shift rod/linkage when I force it up into the 2wd direction (the shifter wont even go into 2wd position).
Anyone have any idea what's up with it? 12/2/2008 3:49:36 PM |

Did you mess with the linkage when you put the shaft in? Sounds like it either came unadjusted or a bushing popped out. Be a man and shift it with a wrench anyway, who needs to shift on the fly? 12/2/2008 8:53:02 PM |

So AFTER I tore the whole damn transfer case apart and looked at the shift rail and how all that shit works, I've come to the conclusion that I mounted the shift linkage (on the outside of the transfer case) upside down, and the whole time I was trying to shift into 2wd, it was actually shifting at the opposite end of the spectrum (4wd low).
doh.
