On the other side of the deep political divide, the anti-government People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) was so pleased with the Constitutional Court ruling that it planned to lift its week-long blockade of the Suvarnabhumi International Airport and stop all its demonstrations from today.

The PAD “has agreed to cease protesting after a 192-day campaign”, said Mr Sondhi Limthongkul, a key leader. “If there is something wrong, we will mobilise people and stage another protest.”
