North Carolina (specifically Charlotte and somewhat Raleigh) and the city of Atlanta have become rivals in the professional sporting worlds over the past 25 years with the additions of the Hornets, Panthers, Hurricanes, Bobcats, and the new NASCAR Hall of Fame being placed in Charlotte instead of Atlanta. No true Carolina fan would go off and cheer for the Falcons, Hawks, or Thrashers, so why cheer for the Braves? There is no reason to be supporting any team from such a horrid city. I understand that the lack of a Carolina MLB team causes the need for baseball fans to cheer for someone somewhere, but why would you ever pick Atlanta or any other rival city? (I classify DC, Tampa, and New Orleans as the other "rival cities.")

I'm a 4th generation Giants fan but I hold the Panthers in equal esteem, and cheering for both isn't a contradiction since they only play each other once every 2-3 years. But if I had been a Saints or Falcons fan before the Panthers came in, then I'd have a problem, and would choose the Panthers in the end.
