EWW. this is why you should clean out your fridge (& re-arrange it) every time you go grocery shopping. put the stuff that you need to eat right away before it goes bad at the front within your eye line and you'll hopefully eat it before it goes bad.

Thanks for reminding me, that cilantro is probably bad.

my fridge stays pretty empty for the most part, except for condiments. I usually make a big mean on like a Sunday, then eat on that throughout the week.

does mayonaise go bad? I swear I have had the same jar of mayonaise for close to a year, and it tastes just as good as the day I bought it

I'm sure the kind in a jar is mostly chemicals anyway.

i actually do clean out my refrigerator once a week, sometimes more often than that, but this container wasn't very big and it was hiding behind condiments. i have cleaned out the fridge at least 3 or 4 times since that food had been cooked (again, i can't recall when i cooked it, but i know it wasn't in the past month) and i didn't see it so it got left behind

yea but mayo is one of those things that grosses me out anyway

and it has a really long life anyway

so that when it is past the date i get extremely grossed out.

My parents bought some mayo in a squeeze bottle for a cookout and left it at my apartment; it turned to liquid not too long after the date printed on it.

...because it tastes good.
Also, it moistens my sandwich, holds together my egg, tuna, or chicken salad, and is the base for many delicious dressings.

Fake or light mayo is not good, though.

The worst is when you find something hiding back in the fridge that is moldy. In my old apartment I forgot about a bowl hiding in the back of the fridge that had pear halves (in light syrup!) in it...was back there for I don't know how long. When I finally noticed it was back there and opened the bowl, you couldn't even see the pears anymore, everything was covered by a fuzzy gray layer of mold. I threw the whole bowl away.

I try to clean my fridge out more often these days...

No, the worst is when you find it in the back of your dorm-mate's closet, after weeks of not knowing where the stink was coming from.

This thread reminds me of the part in all episodes of House where they go looking through the house for something that causes you to get sick.

"We found moldy leftovers in the back of the fridge."
"That could cause <insert big word here>."
"Only one way to find out, go stick a giant needle in his eyeball to confirm."
<2 excruciating painful hours pass in a 2 minute commercial break>
"Results were negative."

I wish people who had the money to go out to eat would actually consume their leftovers that they leave in our fridge

or freakin throw them away after a month
