you'll make a stink over in a store?

Like, purchases rung up incorrectly, inappropriate taxes, coupons/sales not honored, mislabelling - things like this.

i don't make a stink. if the price doesn't ring up as advertised, i let them know. if they don't fix it, i just don't buy it. no need to argue with idiots.

5%, but only if it's a discount (coupon, etc)

If it rang up more than was on the tag, I want every penny back and then some for my trouble.

That's pretty much what I mean.
Not throwing a fit, but not getting taken advantage of.

On the other hand, I refuse to back down even when some clerk is copping an attitude or otherwise trying to intimidate me.

Also acceptable.
Of course, both my mom and I remember the price of everything we pick up, and this sometimes drives sales clerks crazy when someone confirms what we told them.

Yesterday, I bought a box of Kashi bars, but got the wrong kind. Today, I went back, and asked the CS girl if she'd rather do a refund, give me cash, and let me check out again, or if she'd prefer to do an even exchange. She chose the latter.
I get up there, she rings the barcodes, and goes 'you owe $0.16'. I'm like 'these were both priced the same, and they weren't on sale yesterday'. She just stands there for a second, and goes 'well, I guess it's tax'. I'm like 'do I ask for a manager, try and make her realize that if it is, that's not right, or should I just leave?'

Since she never offered to call a manager, try the transaction a different way, see how glaringly wrong this was, or do anything but stand there dumbly, I took a refund and left.

it's not like the cashiers can really do any damn thing about it. they ring shit up, not control prices.

The night I did a ride a long w/ the police, a woman held a convience store up for what was left of a box of Newports.

The officer immediately recognized the car, plate, and woman, looked through his files in the car, found her number, and called her. By the end of the night, she had turned herself in.

The police officer and I were LOLing the whole time.

when you return/exchange an item, the tax goes along with it. if the two boxes of bars were the same price, the transaction would have come up to $0.00. someone fucked up somewhere. either the cashier didn't do the exchange transaction correctly or the bars were $.16 more than the others, which would be a problem if the tags said they were the same price.

it's just the principle of the thing.

besides, 9 times out of 10, customers don't know what the fuck they're talking about. When i can go 15 minutes without being handed an expired coupon i'll treat customers as if they have a bit of intelligence and might have a clue as to what they're talking about.

You know why they do that, right?

Because sometimes expired coupons will still scan, and most cashiers definitely don't check expiration dates.

It's a 'might as well try it' scenario. IMO, it's only okay if you're gonna buy the item with or without the coupon. Otherwise, you're making more work for the cashier or someone else.

if you had've come into one of the grocery stores i worked in during HS i would've just checked that the prices were the same, put the old box back on the shelf, and give you the box you wanted and initialed your receipt. easiest thing for all parties involved. common sense is hard to find in a grocery store employee.

Its the principal if the cashier is being a bitch/dick about it. If they aren't...then it's just $.16.
