The one place I stopped had em ranging from 70-85 bones. Seems pricey.

As a part owner of a xmas tree farm and one who helps price trees for retail that is a little above average for a really nice tree in the range you posted. However the range you posted seems odd to me. Most people want a 7 foot tree for ~8foot ceilings and 9ft for ten foot ceilings. So you usually see a price jump in between the two. We price our trees in increments 6-7ft, 7-8ft, 8-9ft etc. also you can save a bunch of money depending on where you want the tree to go in your house. If it is going in a corner you really only need a tree that looks good from the front 180 degrees. If it is going against a wall only 270 degrees need to look good. Take that into account and go ahead and buy one with a big hole where the trunk shows if it is going to be facing a wall or corner.

They had some outside Food Lion for $30 but they were kind of pathetic looking.

just get a tree from Food Lion. They are just as good as anywhere. And if you live near NCSU, that Gas Station/Nursery on Hillsborough just past the Fairgrounds heading towards Cary on your left used to have really nice trees for very little money. THey were cheaper than Hood Lion.

Near the intersection of Jones Franklin and Tryon on the Crossroads side is a gas station that has a bunch of firs sitting out front. We've gotten a really nice one there the last two years for about $20 for about a 7-8 foot tall tree.

^^ tha fuck are you talking about?no, they were pretty healthy looking trees. But like I said, there are farms all over the place. You can't charge an arm and a leg for them when they're all over the place...or, when you can go chop one down yourself if you walk 50 ft. into your backyard

FYI Tommy Burleson (of NC STATE basketball fame) has a tree sale lot on kildaire farm rd. in cary. Near western wake hospital. dont know about his prices but it never hurts to support former champions that chose to come here.
