There was someone in classifieds with an ad for massages at a decent price. They make house calls too. I'm sure they wouldn't mind driving to Durham for a lil extra $bucks.

These guys are in Cary, but it's totally worth the drive from Durham.

http://www.moonshadowmassage.com/

I've been to a couple of different places and these guys are definitely the best I've ever been to.

I have an injured ankle, and when I tell most places this they avoid it, because they don't have employees trained in dealing with injuries. Moonshadow though deals with physical therapy on a regular basis and really helps my ankle.

check to see if your insurance will cover it. at one of my old employers, our plan covered up to four massages per month if you have a prescription from a doctor saying it's for treatment of pain rather than just being for relaxation.

Compared to what i've done in the past..yes. They typically are a few dollars, and I do mean just a few dollars, more, but its more than worth it. Most massages are about $1 a minute, and they are a little over that.

They do give student discounts if you're still in school, or at least have an ID that hasn't expired.

Massages arent going to help much with joint pain, only muscle pain.

You need to take some motrin for muscle pain and stop working out with it for now.

Massages are good for getting rid of knots etc in your muscles, but not medically resolving anything more than that.

What is wrong with your shoulder and have you thought about having a cortisone shot?

ok i pmed her hope she gets back to me soon
when i say my shoulder its not the joint...its that whole area...so yea it is the muscle, i dont know what i did to it but its been horrible the past 2 weeks. i think its stress or something. its bad enough that heat and typical friend massages wont help it, i think it needs to be worked on professionally

If its the whole area then its more than just the muscle. Review anatomy of the shoulder. Everything is associative. Muscle problems can also effect tendons, and in the case of joins can even effect ligaments. If tendons are effected, then damage to cartilage can ensue.

All of this is far beyond what a massage is going to do for you. In the least you need to be seeing a chiropractor who usually have massage therapists on staff. They will advise accordingly. Your insurance should cover seeing a chiropractor.

The shoulder is arguably the most complicated joint and needs to be assessed by someone with more training, experience, and education than a 6 month training period. Assuming of course they are not a LBMT.

^^for what its worth, back when i used to play basketball and baseball as a teenager, i had a really bad shoulder problem from the left side to about the middle of my back. it was brutal. i got referred to a chiropractor in cary, i forget his name, he had an office close to the cary community center. It definitely helped a ton! It didn't get fully fixed until baseball season ended and i got to rest it, but going to the chiropractor a few times made a very big difference, i highly recommend it.

I have a friend who runs a massage business. She has taken all sorts of classes and stuff. I always ask her husband if he ever gets a massage, or is it like the Seinfeld episode where he dates the masseuse who refuses him constantly.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but if you're still an NCSU student, you can do massages at Carmichael.

http://ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/campus_rec/fitness/massage-therapy/rates-policies.php

I went to somewhere, but I will NOT recommend them. The person that did the massage was great, very friendly, but her boss? Absolute BITCH. I could hear her talking about me while I was sitting in the waiting room.

(Aw man, someone already mentioned it, ah well)

^ Robe first and then nothing. They'll usually partially cover you with a blanket and then work on exposed areas.

I don't want to sound like an elitist, but I got a massage recently at The Umstead in Cary and it was PHENOMENAL! If more people routinely received professional massages, I honestly believe the world would be a better place.

BTW, I asked for the lotion instead of the oil because I didn't want to be so slippery. I also skipped the hot stones and opted for 50-minutes (I could should have chosen 75 minutes) of targeted areas. In addition, I told the masseuse to bring the pain--and she put the hammer down! I couldn't believe that skinny girl could apply that much pressure--but she couldn't apply too much for me.

And the masseuse used all sorts of techniques (no "happy ending"). Among other things, she would lay down her entire forearm and slide it from my butt cheek all the way up my back and off my neck near my ear; she would roll her knuckles at the base of my skull; and she massaged my arms, hands, legs, and feet. Oh, sweet Jesus--it was glorious!

The Umstead Spa massage receives my highest recommendation.
