I need to know a quick way to get from a list of THOUSANDS of addresses, not in a spreadsheet yet, and be able to import them on Streets and Trips 2008 for plotting
i'm not a huge excel user, i mainly just use it for my timesheet/expense reports at work but those are prefabbed so i had no part in making them
just need to know how to most quickly make the .xls, thanks! 12/8/2008 4:14:24 PM |

What file format/program is the data currently in? If you can export the data as a CSV (comma-separated values), Excel will take it with very little pain. As for S&T, I'm not sure. I haven't used it in a while. 12/8/2008 4:34:55 PM |

its basically all text on a webpage at the moment, i cant link it because its a special database, i can select a category like address, city, state, zip but i cant seperate them by space only because something like "124 happy street" would be seperated into 3 seperate columns, i also dont want to have to add commas at the end of each one
btw, there are 5k addresses abouts 12/8/2008 4:58:54 PM |

Does S&T even have address ranges?
I would recommend ArcMap and their ESRI Data & Maps & StreetMap USA DVD for this task, if you want to take it at all seriously. 12/8/2008 5:02:03 PM |

its our standard program companywide unfortunately
ok heres what ive been able to do so far, let me know if i can take any shortcuts because this appears tedious
i have created seperate .txt files for Name1, Address1, City, Zip Code, and Phone then i have created an excel file and will able to import each .txt into a column of its own, all 4648 of them
now i just need to know what i have to do from here to get Streets and Trips to autorecognize the rows for plotting 12/8/2008 5:27:18 PM |

Excel has settings for how it imports the data. You can have several different things as the delimiter for columns. Tabs are one of them. Just try copy/paste to see. Depending on the formatting of the webpage, you might get lucky and excel will be happy as it is. 12/8/2008 5:28:45 PM |

excellent. i got it. in case anyone wants to know its simple.
just hope that you don't have to go through 400 addresses with a typo that you have to correct their true address or they won't appear. 12/8/2008 7:22:35 PM |
