So i just found out that ncsu is charging me for not graduating on time in the neighborhood of 500 bucks. apparently you start getting charged after 140 hours.does anyone know if there is a way around this ridiculous policy?
12/9/2008 6:24:20 PM
It's all in the game.
12/9/2008 6:25:07 PM
It's in the student handbook. You're considered responsible for knowing the policies outlined in the student handbook.[Edited on December 9, 2008 at 6:26 PM. Reason : d]
12/9/2008 6:26:09 PM
did you double major or something?
12/9/2008 6:27:50 PM
unfortunately, there's no way around itmy surcharge kicked in this semester
12/9/2008 6:29:51 PM
whew...i may be close
12/9/2008 6:30:50 PM
lol I have wayyyyyyyyyyyyy way way less than that and I should be graduating in 6 months.
12/9/2008 6:32:23 PM
get that money's worth, homegirlrent an ipod everyday from the library, get a ticket to every ballgame you can, etc. if they're gonna charge you an extra $500 on top of the $2700, you better make it worth their while

welcome to my life in 2000best part about it is that it COMPOUNDS EVERY SEMESTERWHOOO-HOOOOOOi will never forgive the college of textiles for railroading me into their program as a clueless freshmanoh well everything turned out for the best
12/9/2008 6:34:10 PM
i changed majors 3 times. sorry i didn't know EXACTLY what i wanted to do for the rest of my life at 18.
12/9/2008 6:57:20 PM
well this policy is outlined/stated in several places.
12/9/2008 7:08:34 PM
I avoided that bullshit by transferring twice.
12/9/2008 7:11:07 PM
^^ yes, i'm sure it is. however, how many students do you know that read the fucking student handbook and memorize it front to back?!!i'm asking for loopholes people, stop acting all holier than thou and shit
12/9/2008 7:12:39 PM
heh, you could follow the Snewf paradigm[Edited on December 9, 2008 at 7:13 PM. Reason : &c]
^^ignorance is no excuse. I'm not acting holier than thou, I'm just stating facts. And there is no loophole. NC State hates students and doesn't give a damn about any of them, including you. If there's a way they can scam another dollar from you, they will, and there's no chance of getting it back.Hell, the graduate school canceled a payment I made to them, then turned around and threatened to throw out my graduate school application for failure to pay. You know what happened? I had to pay the fee, again, plus a late payment penalty.Welcome to NC State.

for real kodiak...i've heard that happening to people all the time.. i know i wasn't the only onei told textiles that i didn't want to be in their program during orientation, that i wanted to transfer outbut they offered me no help in getting out, and instead, signed me up for classes that i had no business being in and continued to do so the next semester until i finally went over to design school and got them to put the pressure on textiles to begin the process of transferbest part of tuition surcharge is that it didn't exist when i started, but it sure as hell was there by the time i got outi also had EXTRA p.e classes that were required when i was a freshman, but were NOT required by the time i was a senior that were nothing but dead weight and accumulating on my lovely TUITION SURCHARGEbig lolz all around nc state
12/9/2008 7:57:21 PM
heh, I have 123 credit hours from state and haven't graduated yet. I have 60 credit hours left to complete my degree, but right now I'm taking a breaking and getting a degree in photography from another college...

funny, textiles pretty much did pressure me as well to stay in textiles. Seriously Marko, I wouldn't have placed you to be at COT, even for the 1st year.
12/9/2008 8:17:51 PM
It's okay, lots of people go to college for more than 4 years. They're called doctors.
12/9/2008 8:26:57 PM
I'm pretty sure when you pay for classes, it gives you how much you're paying per credit hour and tells you how much the surcharge is as well, defaulted at 0% for everyone. And if you pick up another major, then you can avoid the surcharge. aaronburro did that. Who needs more than 120 credit hours anyway?
12/9/2008 8:33:03 PM
The tuition surcharge isn't exactly a secret. When I was in college, it was pretty blatantly displayed on the account balance page in TRACs.

12/9/2008 9:28:51 PM
12/9/2008 9:31:19 PM
oh...redstapler must have never taken any summer classesthey exclude summer classes and i got to have at least like 15 or 20 hours from them^"changed majors" i think if you are minoring in something it also doesnt count that toward your 140]
12/9/2008 9:36:09 PM
12/9/2008 9:42:23 PM
By those hours, you must have been in two completely different colleges.Upon checking your profile, yes. Engineering and CHASS.
12/9/2008 9:43:37 PM
Yeah... so?
12/9/2008 9:45:50 PM
i changed majors too and i still didn't have over 150 credit hours. because the general education stuff is pretty much the same for all majorsbut i guess if you change and want to stay "full time" for health insurance you need to keep taking random classes?i'm just confused about how this happens unless you are there for like 8 years (excluding a double major obviously, which CAN be done in under 150 if you do stuff in the same college that is similar. not like SF where obviously you need to take completely different things and no classes overlap)[Edited on December 9, 2008 at 9:47 PM. 12/9/2008 9:50:42 PM
^im kinda impressed that with such different majors you don't have more
12/9/2008 9:52:04 PM
well some things do count on bothlike my science and math requirements for English were obviously filled by classes I needed to take for engineeringsimilarly, some of my English classes fit into my engineering GER requirementsit's all about planning[Edited on December 9, 2008 at 9:54 PM. Reason : plus the Ben Franklin people have been doing this for a while, they helped a lot]
12/9/2008 9:53:28 PM
weird i switched from bio to political science--pretty different---2 years in and my general education wasn't that messed upbut yea, double majoring definitely easier if you do it in the same school i can't even imagine doing engineering and english. but like political science/philosophy or history combo might be the easiest thing of all time. fyi...especially philosophy because A TON of classes can go for both. if anyone needs an easy double major [Edited on December 9, 2008 at 9:57 PM.
