As the year comes to an end, I always like to reflect back on what I did. I always feel like I didn't travel enough or didn't accomplish enough. Then I look back and realize I did pretty good!

List yours here!

1. Bought my first home
2. Moved to Houston
3. Started the job I trained 2 years for (finally!)
4. Saw a handful of live shows, comedians, etc.
5. Visited my cousin in STL
6. Spent 3 weekends in PHX with a good friend
7. Did the Phoenix Great Urban Race
8. Was homeless for a month
9. Spent some serious time in Las Vegas living the good life
10. Did the Dallas Great Urban Race
11. Spent 5 days touring Texas with 2 good friends
12. Did the Chicago Great Urban Race
13. Finished my first 8k Race
14. Spent 4 days skiing in Colorado with 16 of my closest friends
15. Training for my first Half Marathon (although I won't run it until mid-Jan)

Multiple trips to to Nashville, Atlanta, Galveston, Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, New Orleans & Chicago

Overall-shitty fucking year. Next year has to be incredible or I'm out.

Ahhh...lets try and do this in chronological order:

1) Did the Polar Bear Swim on Sullivans Island, New Years Day
2) Gave my sister away at her wedding
3) Went skydiving
4) Graduated law school
5) Helped my friend start his own law firm
6) Took the South Carolina Bar Exam
7) Backpacked Europe for 4 weeks by myself (France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy) and the final 3 weeks with a good friend (Hungary, Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, and Spain)
8) Passed the South Carolina Bar Exam
9) Joined my friend's law firm (the one I helped him start)
10) Currently helping my friend open up a bar


Barely got to double digits...that'll do.


And since some people are putting big concerts in there:

I saw Common and Q-tip, Nas and Talib, and the Roots. All three were pretty fucking ridiculous...with probably The Roots being the best.

Broke my heel
Landed my dream job
Finally saw the Boss in concert w/ Jeepin4x4…man that was awesome.
Had an awesome summer fishing w/ my ole man.
Paid off my car
Moved to a new city
Bought to become an uncle in a few hours

In the past year, I hit my lowest point ever; after my accident, to the highest; landed my current gig. It has really made appreciate how well I have it, despite all my gripes or worries.

jan 31 i totaled my car
feb-may i lived with aksnoopy, and she got evicted so i had to deal with a bunch of that shit
jan-may i had 18 credit hours which sucked donkey balls
late june i started an upaid internship that started off cool but deteriorated fast
early sept i started a paid internship that was much better; also had 2 other jobs and was working 7 days a week
nov/dec i've been on easy street w/ one job and late nov i got a car
dec 17- graduation

summer worked took some small vacays
august - december more school bullshit with a clinic internship so tres busy (12 hour days and then hw. fun times)

pretty uneventful. not that different than most years i suppose. little shit here and there. little vacations. little concerts. nothing too exciting or memorable.

I guess I have had a pretty solid year. I'm really happy with everything I have done this year.

2007 ended pretty badly, but 2008 started off good.

I had some of my life's biggest ups and downs. I had a bad ski accident and was laid off from my job. But I also took some awesome trips (CO twice & HI) and got a better job and moved back to NC. I also bought my first new car (finally a sports car!) in 9 years. I spent all summer unemployed, which had pros and cons. Definitely a good year, better than 2007 I think.

And things are setting up for 2009 to really kick ass.

some of the toughest things i've been through in my adult life happened this year

it wasn't always pretty but i learned some good life lessons

it generally just beat the shit out of 2007

and i got a pretty great friend out of the deal...along with reconnecting with some pretty awesome old friends

1) Started off pretty well. Had a good job, making good money, had a girlfriend of 3 years that I was pretty sure I was going to marry
2) Rented a 4br/2ba house with said girlfriend in the hopes of getting married and starting a family.
3) 1 month later relationship ended (on April Fucking Fools Day), for reasons we will not go into here.
4) My engine blew up on my car on 8/1, a $2400 fix
5) Got laid off on the same day, 8/1
6) Turned 30 on 8/9
7) Get a new job that I really love, so it seems luck is turning in my favor
8) Dad died suddenly and unexpectedly on 9/13. A day I will remember until the day I join him
9) Just got a $5k raise and an imminent promotion
10) Looking forward to 2009, and hopefully continuing this upswing

6. Baby has 1st surgery.

8. Asked by Duke to film for national tv show.
9. Baby has 3rd surgery.
10. Husband is demoted at work.
11. Family sells land for first time in a lifetime to help us pay baby's medical bills.
12. Baby will have last surgery for at least 10 years on Friday.

So I am lifting weights at my gym today, and I am doing chest exercises today. I start off with bench and I am not lifting super heavy, Im doing sets in the low 500's....ie 505-525. For these sets I have a spotter because, even though I can handle it, I want to go for max effort. I finish off with a set of 425 with not spotter just to burn out at the end of my set. I then move on to incline bench, and im playing around on my first set with 425, which is by no means super heavy for me on incline so i dont have a spotter. i get greedy and go for one last rep as im getting burned out, and i dont make it. So i roll the bar to my lap, sit up and put it on the floor....no big deal, anyone worth a damn who has lifted weights has done this because they wanted to max the effort. its really not a big deal if its a weight you can safely handle. then this idiot redneck says this to me

"yeah i saw that. you need to have a trainer if your going to do that power lifting shit. this is a fitness gym not a power lifting gym. i saw you on the bench to (where i had a spotter) doing that power lifting...the benches here are not made for power lifting, you need to find another gym. yeah i saw you struggling but i wasnt going to help you cause im not gonna hurt my back. I have been lifting for 54 years"

my reply was, "yeah thanks", then i put the weight back on the bar and continued my lifting...moving up in weight, without a spotter, and i have no problems because i know what i can lift without a spotter.

so i think

1. 425 is not power lifting
2. when i joined golds gym they never said you cant lift heavy
3. i have put more than 525 on these benches before, i think they can take it
4. hell 525 isnt really power lifting
5. the unwritten rule of the gym is if you see someone needing a spot, you help them
6. I know when i need a spotter and when i dont
7. i have been lifintg for 54 years as well and i know what im doing.

We didn't expect him to make it to his first birthday, but thanks to the doctors at Duke he'll celebrate his first birthday in January. It's very exciting. Until this research study, all of the children like my son died in infancy. Now, the oldest child is in high school. Modern medicine is amazing!
