no i just wonder who to call in a situation that would warrant police response but there is no life threatening harm

if the situation is not emergent

then don't call the emergency number (911)

911 only has a certain number of channels, if you call with a non-emergent compliant then you're tying up one of those channels unnecessarily. all PSAPs have a non-emergency number that should be fairly easy to find

I have called 911 on non emergencies a few times because I don't know the normal number. They are pretty nice, will give you the number, and switch you over.

This last time I was near Maiden ln. and there were 4-5 black guys standing near the Belltower Mart. One asked me for money and when I said no his buddies started to heckle me. So I stood right in front of them and called 911. The conversation went something like:

THEM "911 Emergency, what is your location and emergency?"

ME "I'm sorry, this is not an emergency could you transfer me"

THEM "Yes sir, for future reference the number is ###-####"

THEM "Raleigh Police Department"

ME "Yes, there are 5 black men off Maiden Ln. and Hillsborough St. asking people for money. They are harassing everyone who walks by. Could you send someone out"

THEM "A car will be out as soon as they can"

ME "Thank you"

They called me a stupid cracker and left. I was pretty amused.
