i.e., what stands up best to the temperature swing that a garage would experience - crt, lcd, plasma, etc? 12/15/2008 11:30:49 AM |

lcd's work just fine down to -10°C and the heat shouldn't be a problem (50°C-ish)
a CRT would be a lot cheaper though 12/15/2008 12:47:49 PM |

I'd go with a CRT unless you have an immaculate garage that's typically always closed and has good insulation.
Too much to go wrong to waste money on anything else, unless money's no option. Hell, look at the CRT's at Carter Finley. Outside in the elements full time and still going strong. 12/15/2008 12:49:33 PM |

well the question was the widest temperature swing, that's a CRT
will an LCD work? possibly, but they are only rated to -20'C which equates to -4'F, which as of last night would not have worked for me, it was -5'F where i live last night
just don't go plasma. 12/15/2008 1:12:20 PM |

Yeh, but you have to consider not only temperatures, but:
daily temperature swings (the effect of temperature changes, not just temperature extremes) sunlight/uv precipitation humidity airborne particles (saw dust, stuff in the wind, etc) airborne chemicals flying tools/parts ( my dad busted a TV like this one time)

yeah, get on craigslist free section and get a TV that "doesnt work".. some of them work after a few min/hours of playing with it. 12/15/2008 3:07:26 PM |
