The City of Raleigh came though my neighborhood today with little white flags and put them all along the edge of our yards where they would like us to plant trees. It's in the city right-of-way so I'm not liable for damages when the tree falls, and the tree is provided at no cost to me. Of course I do have to water it and rake leaves in the fall. THE CHOICES:

i've read that the zelkova is easier maintenance in the fall. and i'm all about some easy maintenance. the maple is better looking in the fall though. these tough suburbian choices are killing me!

a zelkova is not what you pictureda zelkova is a type of elmif you need a durable, city tolerant tree get a zelkova, thats whats planted all up and down hillsborough streetim not sure how they are affected by elm disease though, that might be importantpersonally i think red maples are too common, i tend to go for the more rare less utilized things[Edited on December 16, 2008 at 4:47 PM.
