its an IBM t42p that will turn on, but I get nothing on the screen. I get a beep code of long short short when it boots. depending on what kind of work needed I'd be willing to pay around $100-200

it's either the motherboard, LCD, or RAM, according to IBM

i'd be willing to take a look at it for you, but i can't make any promises as that's pretty damn generic

I've got some RAM sticks if you wanna test the RAM. It could be a possible easy fix in 60 seconds. Unfortunately I don't have anymore t40 series LCD's or inverter boards...you might seek fregacfor that. Of course I wonder if he's MIA lately. He would've jumped all over this

Ugh, T42's have known motherboard issues . . . . might need a GPU reflow. Or could be as simple as ram/etc.

I'd have to take a look at it to give you a solid repair quote. Might be an easy, cheap fix. Might be more involved. If you want to bring it by sometime just let me know!

Seotaji: So you think. My new bionic arm (built from parts from dismantled Sun workstations and Laserjet 4's) makes me better, stronger, and faster than before.

A couple of months ago, I did some work for FAI756843 . It basically consisted of finishing off his new PC build, installed new hard drive, video cards, a few case fans, and a copy of windows vista, so an XP reinstall on a notebook isn't a big deal. Check with him for a reference if you need one.
