wait you mean to tell me you don't have an image of this hosted somewhere using some esoteric software you discovered and subsequently bragged about

for shame

well i found an image

but the damn thing is 7gb... i burned a dual layer DVD of it but my macbook's optical drive doesn't like to read burned dual layer DVDs

i don't have another mac here at home or i'd mount it and strip out all the extra stuff to make it fit on a single layer DVD...

so that brings me to asking if anyone has one i could borrow for a couple of hours.

So you don't have an external drive anywhere? Or a USB drive bay to put an internal drive in?

Or you cant boot a linux ISO, mount the OS X DVD image you have, DD it to a partition, boot and install from that partition, then nuke and expand your OS X partition with a Gparted boot cd?

no, i'm at my parents house in wilmington. no external drives, nothing. just a windows desktop and a windows laptop (save for my incapacitated MBP).

is there a linux livecd distro with support for mounting compressed DMGs? or can dd handle them natively?

I would think there would be, but there are freeware/shareware Windows apps that can convert a DMG to iso or bin files.

tried all the ones i could find, none of them worked.

the image it spits out is indeed an ISO image but the data on the CD itself is HFS+ so i can't delete stuff from the image to make it fit on a single layer dvd. i even tried installing macdrive... i can read the data from the HFS session and copy it out... but i have no way of extracting the bootloader...

*sigh*

also, all of the sites i've seen say that doing anything to a leopard DMG on windows will make it unable to be booted from...

wal-mart has only two saving graces:

1) they are the only place that sells external DVD burners at midnight
2) their return policy is such that i can return it tomorrow because it "doesn't work"

installing 10.5 now. thanks for the suggestions.

I returned a PS3 to Wal-mart a couple years ago because "I couldn't sell it on eBay"

that black lady gave two shits
