"Myrtle Beach, S.C. After failing to find a buyer, Hard Rock Park asked a Delaware bankruptcy court today for permission to liquidate, signaling once and for all that it will not be able to reopen.

The park asked the court to convert its bankruptcy from a Chapter 11 to Chapter 7. Under a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a business can continue operating while it tries to reorganize its debts, but under a Chapter 7, a trustee is appointed and the property and assets are sold off to pay creditors, according to the U.S. Department of Justice."

One of the cooler parks I've ever been to. o well!

I've never heard of this park, I bet that's why it failed.

Also, how do you sell off a roller coaster?

i liked the Led Zeppelin ride

the only way to make it better is to not make you stand through that 4-minute Whole Lotta Love introduction EVERY TIME

they just opened the park at the wrong time, couldnt have been much more unlucky w/ the economy (prices were too high as well, i mean $50 damn)

^^^Happens all the time. Most of the rides will probably be picked up on the cheap by other parks.

pretty crazy that it didnt even last a year.

I figured they would at least take a couple years of losses to see if they could get areturn on their investment

Well, it wasn't just that they lost money, they didn't pay for a lot of the stuff they bought. A ton of companies had liens on them.

This was one of those places where I saw the plans a few years ago and said this is a pipe dream that will never ever happen. Miraculously, it did happen, but probably shouldn't have. A good example of a group of people being really talented at convincing other people to give them money to build something.

it should have been a little closer to the beach, i know it's still in MB, but if it were within walking distance (AND CHEAPER), more people might have gone

I'm sad i didn't make it there in time. Probably doesn't help that Myrtle Beach is dead except for a couple months a year, and the economy has been horrible. The park had the potential to make it but horrible timing

who vacations to the beach only to go spend the day riding lame-ass rollercoasters?

their business model was TEH FAIL. if its a nice day and I have gone to the beach on vacation, my ass it going to be at the beach. if its raining, I am certainly not going to walk around a theme park.

Interesting, because the Pavilion survived for 58 years and Family Kingdom is still going after at least 40. The better question is who goes to MYRTLE BEACH to go to the actual beach. If you want sand and ocean, there are infinitely better choices.

those are right by the strip. walking distance. you could go for an hour or two. they also didnt cost $texas. completely different.

this park was a pain in the ass to get to from mrytle or any of the surrounding beaches. your entire day was wasted if you went. there are actually some pretty nice beaches not in mrytle, but very close.

Well I agree with you on that part; location and price. Just not the notion that people don't go to Myrtle to go to amusement parks.

We got enough room at my parent's house in Havelock to move the coaster too. I just need to clear some woods, dig some footings, pour some concrete, haul the pieces there and have a steel erector put it together. Suh-weeeet.

That place was expensive as all hell.

I took 23 other people to a week at MB, and we didnt go to the park based purely on the admission cost.

Fuck I liked that place.

Was way overpriced, though... but probably because not many people were going there lately i suppose.
