...and judging by the photos, it doesn't look like much has changed since I lived there 10 years ago. The cafeteria chairs & tables are exactly the same, as is the furniture in the rooms. It's always kind of nice when something is frozen in time like that. I wonder if the woman with the gold teeth is still working the cafeteria entrance. I imagine by now the dining room has upgraded to flat screen TVs from the big rear-projection ones.

They were supposed to renovate the furniture in the rooms, but I guess that didn't happen.

I just always hoped and prayed we'd get new mattresses haha

You had to buy feather beds and all that jazz to get a good nights sleep (when you weren't completely hammered).

I managed not to think about all the screwing & vomiting that went on on those mattresses. I moved into a half-vacant room midway through the semester and my roommate pointed out the red spot on the carpet where he'd puked after a bender. It was red because of the spaghetti dinner he'd had that night

I lived in Tucker with cable, internet and no air conditioning. I would've traded the first two for the last.

The best part about banging someone from UT was not the sex

but the post-coitus card swipe and the free meal at the top floor cafeteria that immediately followed

i remember when i was a freshman in calculus II (ma 241), there was a fire the previous night and one of the kids in my class was complaining that he could do his homework because they were stuck outside

so me, being the asshole that i am, said really loudly, "thats what you get for paying all that money."

everyone laughed for a good 30 seconds, even the professor

Although I never lived in UT I had a few friends that lived there and I gotta say, it was pretty quiet compared to Owen Hall. Nobody seemed to know their neighbors or talk to each other that much.

You were probably on the dorky 7th floor or whatev.

I knew all my neighbors and we usually kept our doors open and roamed from room to room.

Hahaha I think it was the 7th floor actually. Yeah all the doors were shut and it was like I was in a random hotel or something.

That's like the study floor. 24hr quiet or some shit.

It wasn't cool to be on that floor.

I lived in Wood with cable, internets, and crappy air conditioning.

I helped my suitemates with chem homework so they let me run cable from their room to mine along the outside of the building. It was a white cable that we pulled tight in the mortar groove between the bricks. You couldn't even tell it was there

That is freakin' awesome.

When I was a freshman, there was a poll which asked if people would want to pay cheaper cable, if everyone was required to have it. I wish they would get rid of the phone line charges.

^^ LOL

My sophomore year in Bragaw we did that thru the little vent things in the top. Only we were fucking stupid and left it there over Christmas break. Got in deep shit over that. The funny part was when we went to talk to the RD about it she just made us make some posters to put up in the lobby. Me and my roomates poster was a huge TV w/ a no smoking sing thru it that said no stealing cable. Ha ah, good memories.

I'm pretty sure phone lines in the dorms are extra now. Everybody has cell phones.

I thought they made you keep our dorm phone because of something or another where if the university wants to contact, you they don't want to call a bunch of "out of area" cell phones and amass outrageous long distance charges.

Definitely don't need to keep a phone in the dorms, now. I think I was told less than 1% of people actually get the phone service through ncsu.

I would bet good money on it that in room 822, there are still dart holes in the wall. I was told it was perfectly OK to have a dartboard, but then those fuckers made me pay for repairs on the day I moved out. I'd just love to know if they are still there. (It'd kinda make me wish I had put bullet holes in it instead.)

Metcalf was indeed the best

My favorite memories were the three computer monitors we launched out of my 12th floor window onto the bricks 100 feet below

They made a loud as fuck sound and appeared in the police blotter

By the time we threw the second and third monitors, I had befriended a kid on the 8th floor right below me and we had him stick his head out the window when we were about the drop the monitor

As soon as we let it go we would yell and he would duck his head in and try to bash the monitor with a baseball bat as it flew by him

The first time he totally whiffed, and the second time he struck a glancing blow and broke his wrist and sent the monitor 3/4's of the way to Bowen

It was fucking awesome

When I stayed there 2 years ago, she was still there. And of course Maria was the best part, especially when she was in the singing mood and was ecstatic when she remembered your name when she was the card swiper.

The TVs were rear projections still, but I don't remember if they were that new at the time.
