Today, for no reason I can discern, my Powerbook G4 failed to get past the white screen with the Apple logo. Tech support had me try a few tricks that didn't work, so my last option is to "archive and install". I was able to hook up the laptop to another mac and backup my important files via firewire. Wish me luck. Anyone else ever have to do this? 1/8/2009 5:26:34 PM |

so no folder with a question mark?
hold down ?S when you power it on and see if you can get to single user mode if you can, reboot with a leopard DVD in the drive, hold down C to boot from the DVD, then go into disk utility and run disk first aid and repair permissions
if that doesn't work, go for the archive and install. 1/8/2009 6:44:58 PM |

Archive and install got everything back to normal with one major exception: iTunes won't launch. I bought Leopard this weekend so wish me luck on installing it. 1/12/2009 12:21:46 PM |
