So this has got to be one of the coolest things I've seen...Australia's soliciting applications for the post of caretaker onHamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef.

That would be pretty cool, but I wonder why they don't look for someone who lives there or in NZ or something. Guessing it is a pretty good marketing ploy for the city, increasing visibility of the city and reef through the web by creating a "dream job".

I mentioned the same things when I was looking for a secretary. 1/12/2009 10:33:56 PM |

^ I think you nailed it and it's just a marketing ploy more than anything. 1/12/2009 10:52:59 PM |

oh, i'm sure it's a ploy. but if they pay upwards of $100k for a 6 month stint on an island in the great barrier reef, i wouldn't mind doing a few menial tasks 1/13/2009 6:09:12 AM |

People from Australia or New Zealand aren't gonna be interested in taking a trip to the Great Barrier Reef all that often. If they get someone from Europe or America or whatever, then odds are the local press in that area is gonna cover it and generate interest.1/13/2009 9:46:20 AM |
