I've been getting BSOD code: INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR upon boot, immediately after the "windows vista progress bar load screen". I've checked all connectors and checked the BIOS settings as well, including disabling power management. After removing components and trying to boot, I am finding that my PC will only start if the only USB device I have plugged in is my keyboard.
Just FYI, my pc is custom built with following specs: MSI P6N SLI board, E6600 oc'd @ 3.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 8800GTS 512 MB, 500W PSU running Vista Business.
I know my psu is a bit on the weaker side for my setup, but do you think a BSOD would be likely for this condition? Google is yielding scattered results.

maybe, but i'd tend to think that something like that would manifest itself by your machine not booting at all 1/13/2009 10:31:56 PM |

Most systems hit a peak power load right after the Vista loading screen, so I would not be surprised if it was the power supply. I have never heard of that error, though.1/14/2009 10:39:41 AM |

here's an update:
i've swapped PSU's, psu wasn't the problem, I'm still getting the Internal Power Error. Another thing I've noticed is that my dvd drive isn't getting power at all, regardless of molex connector I'm using. It's not dead because it works fine in another pc. I'm starting to think this is a mobo issue. Anything else I should try? I've removed all components as I've mentioned down to psu/cpu/ram/video/hd and found it'll boot into windows (and not bluescreen) as long as the USB keyboard is the only USB device plugged in. 3/30/2009 3:39:51 PM |

mobo
nothing else in the computer can produce that wide variety of problems
make sure the wiring for the USB headers isn't loose or something 3/30/2009 3:44:23 PM |
