He of the comforting monotone has hitched his wagon to 20th Century Fox's big-screen adaptation of the acclaimed Japanese anime series Cowboy Bebop, which is set in 2071, 50 years after a massive lunar explosion decimated Earth's population and necessitated the colonization of the entire solar system.

Thanks to greater than usual logistical issues, an elite team of Old West-style bounty hunters, or cowboys, is needed to keep the peace.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is attached to play Spike Siegel, a reformed criminal turned space cowboy and copilot of the Bebop, who, like a character from the actor's past, is well-versed in kung fu and other combat skills but is toting around quite a few personal demons.

No word yet on who's in line to play Spike's copilot, Jet Black, a onetime Inter-Solar System cop with a mechanical arm, but so far we're liking the whole Firefly-Battlestar Galactica-Bill & Ted vibe.

Cowboy Bebop is too awesome and complex for general audiences. The movie-makers will butcher the story, characters, and probably even the music. Reeves will simply contribute to the devastation.

ok you can rip me apart for this suggestion but maybe the guy who plays Vince on entourage

he is good at being smug and kinda looks like Spike - I'm not saying he's perfect but he would be a better choice to me

somebody mentioned joseph gordon levitt - i haven't seen that guy since 3rd Rock From The Sun but maybe he would be a good choice

it doesn't really matter who they get i can see them trying to cram ballad of fallen angels / jupiter jazz / the real folk blues all into one movie and it sucking

Reeves might be able to pull it off, doubtful though. Not only is spike stoic, hes very savy and has a wit to him that I dont see Reeves having. Plus I dont think they could perm keanu's hair to look like spike without me dropping on the floor with laughter.

Actually, that's what all the characters have to convey, even spike. That's why reeves cannot do spike. Wooden != existing in another time and place.

Reeves is a bad choice. Spike is cool, but not stoic. He's a joker, a clown, charismatic, suave and mercenary.

Reeves can portray clueless, nieve, ham-fisted, monolithic and confused.
