I agree but there's a big difference between me calling myself white and a black person born in america with parents born in america calling him/herself african american.

^because the longer black people keep seperating themselves from the rest of society with their labels and special events/scholarships/etc the longer it will take for them to achieve the integration they claim to desire.

That's not what i'm getting at. It's just that if you shove things in peoples faces and try to make yourself look different people will likely be annoyed and tend to avoid you. If I walked around and called myself scottish american all day and demanded special treatment for my heritage I would fully expect to turn many people away.

^ lol, those things aren't shoved in your face. That fact that you perceive them to be reflect more on your own internal racism (by the dictionary definition of racism), than anything else.

You can have scottish american celebrations, AFAIK, no one is going to stop you from doing that. What's frowned upon is having meetings celebrating scottish supremacy, or something similar. I remember going to a Holland cultural festival a few years back, and pretty much all the workers there were white, which made perfect sense. There was nothing racist about it.

Scholarships and civil rights "protections" (that cover far more than just blacks BTW) are meant to help compensate for jim crow era laws that many blacks are still trying to live down today. They are there to help the black community rise out of the poverty that was IMPOSED on them. In any case, blacks are now a smaller group that hispanics, and hispanics have the exact same minority group protections. Why is it you don't rant about hispanics? It seems you have a peculiar interest in the blacks...
