Quote :
"
As anyone who has not lived on Mars for the past four years knows, Barack Obama has a powerful tendency to compare himself with Abraham Lincoln. In his brief tenure as junior senator from Illinois, Obama drew many an analogy between his mission and that of the most famous political son of that state. During the presidential campaign, he committed himself to a “more perfect union” of equality, the credo so central to Lincoln’s presidency. In this Lincoln Bicentennial Year, the temptation to emulate Abe has already proven irresistible, even down to the most particular details. As I watch the early proceedings of Inauguration Day, I have just learned that the president-elect will be sworn in while he places his hand on the Lincoln Bible. Then he will consume the same lunch of wild game and apple cake which Honest Abe sat down to eat after his first inauguration. As an extra nod to symbolism, Obama will be eating this lunch on replicas of the same china as that used by Mary Todd Lincoln on that august occasion.

I suspect these historic allusions are just the tip of the iceberg. Brace yourself for an endless parade of analogies: at a time when America is struggling with the gravest economic crisis in recent memory as well as two wars to promote democracy, the Bicentennial Commission will be working overtime to demonstrate that the spirit of Honest Abe is back in the White House, sanctioning every move that President Obama makes. "

Keep in mind that Abe was a Republican...
Though, I'm sure we'll hear how this is a testament to his "bi-partisan" stance...

Yeah, they both pretty much shape-shift over time in order to keep america divided as much as possible....

"Analogy"
I'm not sure "analogy" is the right word. I'm concerned that use of the word "analogy" is devolving to simply being synonymous with the word "comparison", or even worse, to being identical to the concept of comparison, similarity, or metaphor. (Analogies involve the relationships between other relationships between pairs of things.)
As you all know, analogies can be always be expressed in the following form.
A : B :: C : D (A is to B, as C is to D)

The analogy is between (the relationship between A and B) and (the relationship between C and D),
It is not the relationship between (A or B) and (C or D).

Bullshit, well in they way you mean. Lincoln was just as much a current day Republican as he is a current day Democrat. In terms of the market and trade, he is far more a Republican so you can eat it.

And damn, those pics remind me that Lincoln was a ugly mofo that never would have been elected today. Obama's biggest attribute is his charisma and looks. Compare THAT to Lincoln, who was all hard work and ideas.

"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in anyway the social and political equality of the white and black races - that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied everything."
