I posted this about a year ago in this thread:

http://brentroad.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=512608&page=1#11210594

Quote :
"For about the past two years I've been taking all of the junk mail I get that have the pre-paid "business reply mail" envelopes and sending it back empty or stuffed with messages that state my feelings on receiving junk mail. It is very easy, takes almost no time at all, and it (hopefully) discourages junk mail. Just now thought about spreading the word.

To me junk mail is annoying and wasteful. Probably won't have much of an effect until you get millions of people doing this, but who knows, it may catch on. It definitely makes me feel good though. Thought that I'd pass along. Feel free to participate (or not)."

I continue to do this and hope that others do as well, and maybe can get some new people to start. It's so easy.

that takes so much more time and effort than taking 1 second to throw it away

I think I replied in that thread or at least one just like it. I used to think I was doing something by shredding the contents and stuffing it in the prepaid envelope and sending it back. They I got tired of the hassle of wasting my time doing it. Then I put my name on the no junk mail list and haven't gotten any junk mail since and I feel more victorious in doing so.

I've put my name on the no junk mail list as well but I still receive some. The one's I do still receive, I send back.

To be sure, it takes about 4 more seconds to do this than the 1 second it takes to throw away. If you're making say $2.3 million per year, it's probably not economically feasible to take the time to do this; I can completely understand that rationale. Also, if you're too lazy or don't care, I can certainly understand that. Outside of those people, I would encourage the rest to participate.
