Seagate's having LOTS of problems right now. When was this purchased? December? I think that was the worst time.

You should check the model number and see if they've released a firmware patch for this. It's also worth noting that one of the patches released this week bricks the drive...I can't remember which.

Seagate is a pretty reputable firm though. I know they just downgraded the warrantys to 3 years but thats still better than most other companies.

When one of my seagate 250gb sata II drives went out it was ridiculously easy to mail it in for the replacement.... You know warranty replacement on a maxtor would have been a pain.

This is the affected drive:
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/desktops/barracuda_hard_drives/barracuda_7200.11/

40% Failure Rate in the last month. It's worth checking the model number of the drive inside the enclosure.

I bought this drive at the end of October.

I bought it for our church to back up the computer that gets used there, but somebody already donated one similar to this, and they recently gave it back to me and said they had no use for it.

Newegg just had the 1TB FreeAgent for 109 shipped(Still might), and Dell had the 1.5TB FreeAgent for 125 shipped. With that said, given the current situation, Seagate HDs make me very nervous. I just had to buy two more 1TB drives to make my 1.5TB Seagate redundant.
