ive been goin here for a year and a half, i promise you there is no better training in mixed martial arts than what danny provides. He is a black belt in shito-ryu karate, and competed in professional MMA under Frank Shamrock and institutes a complete fighting system based on Frank Shamrock's teachings which allows constant reinventing of techniques and skills, also competed in professional kickboxing

Matt Major is a Black Belt Judoka and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner, also well versed in wing chun and muay thai, also trains at American Kickboxing Academy with the likes of John Fitch, Josh Koscheck, Phil Baroni, Cain Velasquez, and Mike Swick

he also teaches kickboxing and submission grappling specific classes, but the special is for the MMA classes..i go to all of them

we also have professional kickboxers, Sambo practictioners, and boxers that train here

here is the official TEAM ECSA website.

If it wasn't in Durham I'd be down in a second. It's a bit of a drive, but I might still do it.

o no its not gonna be 1pm for class start its just that he started the special today and he made this ad at 1pm so i guess thats the default time sets

the ad is for the signup period duration not the actual time of classes

typically mma classes are from 7-9, i dont know if hes doin anything different for this promotion but i doubt it

I would do this, but I really just don't have the money.

Do you wear shoes while sparring usually?

LOL I remember the episode with matt major, he had some fucking issues.

he was a good fighter though.

I'd be afraid some how I'd piss him off and he's kill me with his bare hands though.

I can ask danny, but there is a school that runs the Hayastan grappling tournaments (Team Gokor) that is really good for judo and jiu jitsu so id google them im not sure of the name of their school but their competitors are typically really good

^hah matt is totally mellow, he loves to teach and is real patient....he does flip his shit if you disrespect the sport, like if you crank submissions on someone to hard or do unnecessary uncontrolled slams...lol we joke about his foreman grill from time to time, one of the guys brought a book for prisoners in called "managing your anger" he just laughs hes a good guy

and yes vix, you can wear wrestling shoes or socks, no sneakers allowed on the mats though

How hard is it for a scrawny 150lb (don't hit the weightroom much) to start training for something like this? I don't care to be a professional fighter or anything, just thought it might be cool to learn some of the techniques involved. I run fairly regularly and am in decent cardio shape, I just lack in the muscle/strength department.

not hard at all

our best guys are 135 pounders, i get tooled by our lightweights daily

we got alot of guys around your weight, you wont just be thrown in there and submitted and punched and stuff ll do drills and at the most live wrestle withous submissions just to get a feel of how it works

you dont need strength, youll gain the strength you need on the mat plus we have conditioning programs we also do daily

I need the conditioning and the fat-loss that comes with it. I could probably get down to like 185 then.

To be fair to Matt, those Tapout guys are total clowns. I'd probably have a hard time dealing with them too. On the one hand, they can get you a ton of exposure and help advance your career. On the other hand, you're embarrassed to be seen with them. I felt bad for that kid he snapped on after his fight on the show though. Threatening someone just because they're annoying isn't right. Sometimes you just gotta walk away and let clowns be clowns.

So how often do you go? 3X a week?

What are their normal monthly rates for kickboxing?

i try to go 5 days a week, i do need recovery time

since ive not had a car its been a little harder to go as much as i want, i go 3-4 days a normal week

for one class (kickboxing or mma) its like 70 a month, for all classes its 90 bucks a month

all u need to show up with is gym clothes and wrestling shoes if you dont wanna be barefoot, and a pair of sneakers for the conditioing

you can buy all your boxing gloves, mma gloves, handwraps, shin guards, ankle supports etc through him for cheap

I'd actually consider this if my gym membership were up, no point in paying both. Maybe in may/june i'll look into it.

Yeah man...I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to get back into shape first, but I do want to get into something more interesting eventually. I'm working out 4-6 days a week now at a higher intensity than I've done in years. Hopefully it'll pay off.

I dunno why, but I thought you used to train at Crossfit Raleigh BHS? Must have been confused because of this thread: message_topic.aspx?topic=533377
