I have been trying to look this up online but have, to this point, been pretty unsuccessful.

Am I able to get a police report of a crime someone else committed? For instance person A commits a crime. Can I go see the full investigation and arrest report? Or is that private information and I can only see the charge and disposition committed.

Likewise, can a company, instead of myself as an individual, access that information? Say for a background check. Specifically from the police station. Or are they only allowed to see what the court has on record for person A?

Through the AOC you should be able to obtain a criminal background check. However, as far getting the actual police report, I have no clue. Are you looking for court disposition? Charges? Officer narrative/Investigation?

Criminal background checks can be done at the Clerk of court. Once you get the criminal background check you can go to the clerk's office and ask to see/copy court files. That won't give you much info though.

Call local PD or Sheriff's office for crime scene/investigation/accident reports. I don't know their privacy policies.

That is not a bad idea. Calling a police department directly. I don't know why I was in the mindset a police dept operates during standard business hours.

The officer narrative is what I am curious about if It is private information or public information.

I can tell you from personal knowledge, you wont get the narratives of a report. you might be allowed everything else, but the narratives are confidential information for police only

Police reports are public record. I've looked through tons of them for my job. They may be difficult to access depending on where the arrest was made though. For instance, in Fuquay they have huge notebooks sitting out to look through but RPD are a little more difficult to find. Just call RPD

Well if the public had that information it may destroy an active investigation, reveal names of witnesses or confidential informants or even reveal the name, address, etc of a rape victim.
