when I was at Lake Park, the landlord called and was like "Hey, the person below you says water is leaking down into her bathroom. Do you have any idea why?" "Let me check," say I, and I go and look in my bathroom and the toilet has overflowed and there's like an inch of water on the floor. And I'm like "No, I'm not really sure what could be causing that"

MMMmmm... I had this same problem, but my roommate called maintenance and let them deal with the indians (overflowing dishwasher). Recently we had another leak, a water heater leak, and it ruined a big part of the ceiling (same indians). This second time we found out that a certain someone didn't buy the right insurance on the place so we're doing patchwork repairs out of pocket to fix it and are hoping the massive amounts of mold that we KNOW are present on the other side of the drywall (due to multiple previous leaks) are sealed up in there for now.

I live in a slum. My neighbors suck. Without insurance we couldn't get the money to fix this correctly, so my health may or may not be at risk.

On the plus side, you might get a new kitchen light fixture out of it. I did a rattlecan job on the ceiling and put in a new light fixture to replace the 4-bulb fluorescent one that was in there with something a little less awful.
