OK folks, I know most of you fancies in here watch your films on your fancy 540 inch flat television displays and bill o-rly speaks to you over the satellite or from undersea cables, but there are some of us who don't watch the damn thing much but the wife has to have her stories and the Oprah so I went and got a coupon and waited like 9 weeks and I heard that I was the last person in America to get one but it's okay because King Obama is going to sign an executive order giving Congress the power of the Coupon as well as the purse and anyway because every joe 12-pack in the country is scared to death of going a day without the telly but also waits to the last minute for everything there are only two frickin choices on Amazon and they're all made by chinese brands invented solely so no real brands get sullied by how gawdawful shitty these things are and does anyone have any advice for getting one of these?

i can't really understand your post, but going by the thread title...

i just bought a dtv converter box because i, too, have no cable/cool tv.
i got a gigaware kb-1600 from radio shack. it's ok. full screen movies played from netflix look pretty good, but unfortunately i have to run sound from a headphone jack on my laptop to rca inputs on the tv, so that makes for shitty sound.

Yeah, next time you want to ask a question, get with it and don't try to turn this into story hour. I got about halfway through your rambling and lost interest.

Eh, make sure analog passthrough is something you will use. For most people, I don't see why they would need it. I picked up a box with analog passthrough, and I'd love to trade it for one that doesn't have that particular feature. Although, I will admit I was trying to do a couple of weird things with mine that most people won't need to try.

It is so stupid that they're gonna push the date back. If you don't have your box yet you shouldn't have procrastinated. If you need the coupon u can wait until they work it all out. If you can't spare the $40 that the coupon saves you then you probably shouldn't be watching TV anyways

gf picked up the $49.99 no-name one from target

has analog passthrough, too...works as well as can be expected, i guess...i don't know what to look for, though...she gets all the channels but PBS, but that's because they're in durham, transmit at a lower power, and her antenna is teh sucky

my results:

I got the RCA model that Walmart carries, and it works well. The remote is excellent. the on screen menu is a little slow. was free with coupon. With regular ole' rabbit ears I get 19 channels, including a few religious/spanish ones we set it to skip. the 24 hour rerun channel is pretty cool (Magnum PI, Airwolf, and the A-Team. I haven't seen any Knight Rider on it yet). Picture is DVD quality, reception still leaves a little to be desired. I either get Fox or everything else, pretty much.

Tigerdirect has one for $40.01. You still have to pay tax, but that's as close to free as I've found. Several places online have them for that price too. Can't seem to find a place with that price and free shipping though.

http://www.freedtvshop.com/fdtv/ has one for $2.50 shipped after the coupon.
