My three friends and I are looking for an apartment for next year. We are looking at living at U. Meadows, but another option is Village Green (although it is really expensive).

It would be for four junior girls. We are trying to find a pretty safe place, close to campus, that is relatively cheap. I don't care about pools, tanning, and games. I just want a decent apartment. Anybody know anything about them/Have any opinons on apartments in general?

Thanks for the help.

both of those apts. have the highest murder rates in Wake County. Might want to look at Chavis Heights/Longview/Halifax Court if you trying to be safe.

Stay the hell away from Village Green. Even if you're apartment is spotless you won't get your security deposit back. Management sucks and that stupid couchtrip bus isn't worth a damn.

Look for something near the wolfline. Everything is almost the same price for any 4 bedroom.

Good luck with your search though.

I live in University Commons and it's not bad for a 4BR 4BA apartment.

We've got a dishwasher, washer/dryer, and a back porch and are really close to the wolfline.

I'd heard the bus sucked at Village Green. I have a friend who has been very happy there, so that's why I was looking at it. One of the girls I'd be living with has all her classes on Centennial, so the fact that it was pretty close was good for her. We are also trying to persuade her parents to let her get an apartment (they want her to stay in the dorms).

staying in the dorms is absolutely useless if all her classes are on centennial.

Also, does anyone have apartment suggestions for women in general from 2-4 bedroom, my living situation is kind of in limbo right now.

My priorities are relatively : safe, cheap and close to one of our campuses.

i stayed at u meadows during my sophomore year (04-05). there were 4 guys, so 'safety' is probably different to you and me.

from what i could tell, it's kind of wierd. there were normal loud ass college kids there (like the cokeheads that lived next to us) and then there were people in there older 20's who had graduated and bought one of the places there.

and it's completely surrounded by low income housing. we did hear gunshots randomly, although infrequently, in the night. we never really ran into a problem with it though. there were never bums in our parking lot, two of us had loud audio systems in our cars and they never got broken into, no one (to my knowledge) tried to break into our place even during extended school breaks when we were all gone for weeks.

you're reasonably close to the wolfline, however i wouldn't count on picking it up at the corner of kent/western. since that isn't a "benchmark" stop or whatever, the bus would just fly the fuck by there and then sit and wait at the k-mart park n ride till they were back on schedule. we ended up either driving to class or going to the park n ride.

it's a reasonably short walk to parties on frat ct if they still have any, and the kaplan/gorman area. you can get drunk and jax or that mexican place and still walk home.

you can walk to cookout at 3 AM

but you do have to cut through some rough area to do all this, and we were usually traveling in a group of like 5-8 guys with a few girls (typical nc state amirite?). although one night some dude from off of greenleaf walked with us for about a mile because, as he said, it was safer for him to walk with some white people than to walk around the block alone. made me laugh. then he made fun of clay aiken and left

summary: i wouldn't live there again. if i didn't have good roommates it would have been pretty miserable. if you want to go party at your friends apartments, you either have to cab it or have a DD. it gets annoying after a while.

I like Village Green. It's $Wake County but I like just writing one check a month and being done with it. They just changed the bus schedule and screwed people over, but enough people bitched about it and now it is being fixed. I have an EC spot so It doesn't bother me. Also they just remodeled the Gym/pool/computer lab and its pretty nice. I have also never seen a cop fucking with people here like they do at Usuites/Uwoods/Uvillage.

i'm at wolf village now, and i say avoid it like the plague.

it is a black-only apt. complex.

what about western manor? or champion court? those seem nice....
