I have a friend who is losing her hair due to a new drug she's on to get rid of these incredible migraine headaches she has which is a side effect of a stint in her brain, which is a side effect of cancer treatments...

Just today (2 days into the new medication) she lost about a baseball sized chunk of hair,

Consequently I've been contemplating shaving my head bald in support of her. If you were in her position how would you feel about it and ultimately, should I shave the head bald?

Or you could buy her a wig.

Shoot, St Balderick's does it.

It depends on the person, really. You know her better than we do so you can better gauge how she's gonna react when you show up with a chrome dome one day talking about how you match and stuff.

I personally wouldn't want you to, I wouldn't want you to have to suffer with me. But she might appreciate it.

I wouldn't care; my sister is experiencing significant hair loss for reasons the doctors can't currently clarify, and she doesn't care if I shave or not.

On the other hand, a coworker has recently been undergoing treatment for cancer and lost her hair. Before I found this out, I noticed her hair was different and complimented her 'do - she was getting in her car at the time and just sat there, on the verge of tears, and thanked me over and over. Nobody had the balls to talk to her about it, apparently.

So depending on the person, she may feel very sensitive about it, especially if everyone wants to pretend nothing's happening and she knows they know.

I think to me, a guy shaving his head bald for me wouldn't be a meaningful as a girl shaving her head bald in support of me. If it's a guy it's more like, well it's not weird seeing a guy bald.

I would do more like buy a wig to help, or buy nice hats or scarves.

^ for true.

Most dudes with bald heads, you'd just be like "oh he's getting old"

One of my friends (who is probably reading this thread ) did this in support of his friend. I think it worked out well.

Thanks for all the comments. Better than I expected. I think I'll talk to her about it some more and see what she's feeling. She would most likely really appreciate it, but would never mention it. I think on the friend scale she's pretty close - we eat dinner probably 4 nights a week to catch up. Thanks all, keep 'em coming either way!
