I love this show, and I hate that it doesn't seem to get any love from the Emmy's or Golden Globes or whatever. Of course, even I forget about it when listing great TV from the past couple years, but every time I watch an episode or season, I'm reminded at how great it is.

Anyway, according to wikipedia, it's coming back in March or April

*** slight spoiler warning in the description of the upcoming season ***

Quote :
"The show was renewed for a fifth season of 22 episodes. In an interview with on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Thursday, May 15, 2008, Leary revealed season 5 had been delayed until March 2009 because of the writer's strike, but that all 22 episodes would air on consecutive weeks. Joining the cast will be actor Michael J. Fox, who is set to play the part of Janet's (Andrea Roth) new love interest. According to the L.A. Weekly, on December 1, 2008 during an appearance at Book Soup in West Hollywood, Leary revealed plot details for season 5, specifically that a reinvestigation into the events leading up to and surrounding 9/11 is a major plot line in the first 10 episodes of season 5, which is currently slated to premiere in April 2009[1]."

Perhaps my favorite show, even though the last season was a little disappointing.

suck? no way.
The seasons go up and down in quality, like all shows, but at no point has it sucked.

S2 has a great reoccurring bit where Jesus (and Mary M.) keep showing up and talking to Tommy, because he's trying to quit drinking. It's f'ing hilarious.

One of the crazy things is that they are definitely not afraid to kill people off. Sometimes you can see it coming, but sometimes a character's death comes out of left field.

great show and I'm really excited for it to start again. I was never really a Dennis Leary fan but I gave the show a chance and I've come to like him a lot

yeah, i didn't realize he was such a good actor.
His character somewhat follows his normal asshole persona, but he has a lot of other levels too

FX has already ordered another season too.

Quote :
"The fifth season of "Rescue Me" won't premiere for another couple of months, but FX is already preparing for the season after that.

The cable channel announced Thursday (Feb. 12) that it's ordered a sixth season of the series about firefighters scarred by their jobs and still dealing with the fallout from 9/11. It also set a premiere date of Tuesday, April 7 for season five.

"'Rescue Me' is one of the very best series on television and a tentpole program for FX," says John Landgraf, the network's president and general manager. "We're amazed by the quality of episodes for the upcoming fifth season, which are some of the best they've ever produced. I believe this show will continue to maintain a level of excellence for several years to come, and we're thrilled to pick it up for a sixth season."

The sixth season will run for 18 episodes, FX says. There's no word yet on when it will hit the air."

great show.

I love characters like Tommy Gavin, who are imperfect heroes. Makes it very realistic.

good start to the season. Not great, but good. Just picking up some old story lines and starting some new ones. Should be fun to see which Gavin's fall back off the wagon (...or, get back on it?)

The acting and writing on this show never disappoint

pretty slow episode. last week's was hilarious. This week? meh.
The chiropractors were hilarious, though. and the black bar

looks like Franco is going to pull Mike into his conspiracy theory.... that should get annoying pretty quickly b/c Mike is an idiot.

one thing that kind of annoys me is the conversations the guys have in fires, like when Black Sean started talking to Tommy inside that fire. They do that a lot, and I know that it is used solely as a story-telling technique to keep it interesting, and to give us the impression that these guys are so accustomed to running into burning buildings that, look, they can talk about blow jobs. but i just don't buy it. The fire scenes should be action, with occasional wit thrown in. Getting into arguments about bill clinton's blow jobs while a person is frying on the other side of the door just takes away from the realism that they try so hard to create in the fire scenes.

yeah.... it's kind of overplayed. I would like one of these crazy dreams to be true one of these days.

But - MJF is doing good.
And the monologues they've done for the French lady have been really good. The Captain's was great a couple weeks ago and Sheila's was outstanding.

this season is good so far, but to be completely honest.... i guess I was expecting some more action, or some faster pacing, or some big things to happen already.

but nonetheless, the story telling this season is very, very good, and all the characters are doing a great job. I think i'm feeling more so than in other seasons that the actors have really dialed in all their characters.

oh yeah, and great to see Tommy and Janet get into it again (not, uhhh.... that I condone violence or abuse, but come on - it makes for great TV). All of Tommy and Janet's fight scenes, and sex scenes, in the past, have been really amazing, and so was this one.

looking back at the story lines so far, I guess it pretty much looks like every major plot is connected to 9/11. Each season so far has had something to do with 9/11, but now it looks like they're putting the full effort to tie each story to 9/11.

It's working, and all the stories are good, but I guess that could account for some of the slower-paced feelings and non-wackiness of the plots

damn, i was really hoping the hallucination-sequence with the shooting was real. That would get crazy if Tommy actually killed that guy.

haha yeah I thought it was legit cause he came in earlier. they really seemed to bring that franco boxing storyline up randomly. it seemed like something that would happen at the beginning of an episode and not after a dramatic scene.

well, i wonder how long they will go with the boxing story line. The hockey-team story line just comes up when convenient, and the basketball-team story line died as quickly as it started, just because they got Black Sean.

Unfortunately, lately they've been throwing in random, one-off plots, apparently just for random humor, like the strange chiropractic thing, then all the sequences where Mikey kept changing his bar, culminating in the Black Bar, which, while funny, was unnecessary and takes away from the realism of the show.

But overall, the important story lines are still good. Hopefully we'll get to see more of MJF soon, though.

so, are Frenchie and MJF gone for good? I guess I was expecting them both to hang around for the season.

It's good to see Tommy drinking again - he's a lot more fun that way!

and seeing Garrity's older brother makes me like Garrity a lot more. His brother is completely insufferable, and his mom isn't much better (apart from the requisite "touching moment" when she told him about her breast cancer), and Sean is completely in the right for all the issues that have come up with the three of them so far.

"White" Sean's storyline has been odd. Most of the crew hasn't even realized he's been missing from the firehouse for 2-3 episodes. Otherwise, I really really like this season.

I hate how Tommy fell right back into sleeping with Sheila so easily...she's been trying to get his attention and get him to sleep with her for a whole season and he was annoyed with her and staying away as much as possible.

The she gets him to sleep with her 1 time and all of a sudden he is her bitch again.

Also...they must have found out that a lot of girls watch the show or something because there was far more shirts up and shirts off in this last episode than normal.

that was a great episode, all the way around. Each scene was great.
And it's hilarious how Tommy knocked AA down like that - that was definitely some Denis Leary coming through.

I'm still surprised, though, that Frenchie, MJF, and Franco's conspiracy business do appear to be completely gone. Glad Candy is back. She's easy on the eyes!

I agree...the singing stuff is getting really odd. I keep thinking either when Sean gets healthy he's going to want to quit being a firefighter and pursue a career in theater or the show is doing him a favor and the real life Sean (whatever the actor's name is) wants to start doing Broadway. It sounds like his voice singing and it's actually pretty good.

Overall I actually really liked the last episode though, better than most this season.

just watched the "Carrot" episode, and I swear, if the actress playing Sheila doesn't win an emmy for best supporting actress one of these years...... her 9/11 monologue earlier in the season and her speech to Tommy at the end of this episode were two of the best character-moments on TV I can remember.

reported last week Rescue Me will get 2 more seasons, and will end pretty much on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, so I imagine that could come back again in a big way later on
