just got back from a weekend in NC

sure it seems kind of lame living in cary/raleigh/apex/etc, but you have to move away from the place to appreciate it's beauty

and it's beautiful. never move away, kids.

What were you struck by when you returned?

[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 10:51 PM. Reason : The weather was unusually nice. It was cold as hell(an odd statement) this week.]

another prime example of how humans always value most what they can't have (or don't presently have).

smc,

it was cold as hell in chicago this week and nice as hell this weekend in chicago. so it's all relative I guess.

though I didn't mind 68 in NC today

I hope it's not that!

Raleigh is not beautiful

Cabo is beautiful

Aspen is beautiful

California is beautiful

Raleigh is just a little less shitty then where ever you move to

and thus your opinion of it is jaded

raleigh is pretty shitty.

charlotte is more beautiful, and most of it still looks like shit

I was talking about NC

the only thing i really appreciate about nc when i come back now is

1. the exits are labeled by mile, rather than by number
2. chick fil a is there

but then i run into a lot of the reasons why i do not really miss the state

nc might be beautiful. but cary/raleigh/apex/garner/durham are far from it. too bad all the jobs are here. always seems to work out that way.

1) the people of NC are, on the whole, nicer. I don't know how people in MA are but from my limited experience dating a MIT chick the boston types weren't pretty bad, but they are still asshole city folks
2) I live in the chi, it's not so bad, either. but I think these last two winters have been so bad that I wonder what the fuck was so wrong with NC to begin with!

I don't know man, don't feel bad that you've moved away from NC. I don't; I love Chicago. Nostalgia plays a factor but that ain't why I miss NC.

Eh, enjoy your weather

People have funny ideas about the East Coast here in New Mexico.

Urban wastelands and unpleasant people spring immediately to mind.

it was like 50 in brooklyn yesterday

you can talk about north carolina all you want

theres barely anything in it that can match park slope, let alone the whole burrough

the only thing north carolina is doing best is the beaches and the mountains

and that surely ain't what we're talking about

Sure, there are places with better scenery, better nightlife, or whatever. But I'm perfectly fine right here in Raleigh. I've been to many places, but what's wrong with enjoying the simplicity of good ol Raleigh?

If I go to Raleigh or Cary, I share the sentiments of the original poster when I get home to the wilds of Bladen County.

i don't know, B. i moved to NC when I was 17 and stayed there through my defining early 20s. NC sort of contributed to me being the Don I am today.

a trip to Raleigh is more aggravating than exciting now. I can drive from here to Wilmington (35 miles) quicker than you can cross Raleigh.

haha, Raleigh is a great place if you are 40 with 3 kids... aside from that, its not a shit hole by any means, but it is so extremely boring

i just think that if you are unable to have fun in raleigh, maybe you wouldn't have fun anywhere. i mean...sure it isn't the greatest city, but i am capable of having fun here, my friends are still for the most part here. so if you have friends and you aren't boring, i think you could make it work. maybe. probably. and if not, then move. be ballsy!

i want to move, too. but i'm just saying...i don't sit and gripe about how boring it is. i see a lot of young people. i feel like the cary/n. ral area is more full of families. and raleigh is way better than gboro (in my opinion, i know some people on here think otherwise).
