So the state collects $10,000 for this? That's some bullshit. If the kid had been another man or even someone else's kid, there would have been payments to the victim. I say the $10,000 should be put in the kid's college fund. Taking a huge sum of money from the father will only hurt the kid more.

This is the same state where you can get paid to babysit your own children with government money. And you can get free child care once they reach six weeks old, regardless of whether you have a job. This state is messed up. It's also something like six DUI's before you get a mandatory jail sentence.

I can see this going down one of two ways.

First, if the dad was just joking around with his son and shot him in the butt, thinking the jeans would block the beebee and it might sting a little bit, but definitely no harm done. I mean, I imagine most dads wrestle around with their sons and rough em up a little bit. hell, it adds character and helps ensure you're not a pussy someday.

Conversely, if the dad was truly upset and was actually using the beebee gun as a method of punishment, then I definitely think this is a problem, as it shows some MAJOR anger management resolution issues. I doubt this is the case, but who knows.

I guess it pretty much follows my feelings on spanking. I think spanking is perfectly OK if it is used as a form of discipline and the parents are 100% in control of their emotions. The old "This is what you did and this is the consequences you are facing" technique. But spanking a child because you are angry and lose control of your emotions is bad.

My parents kicked my ass as a kid. It was a rough way to learn right from wrong, but I learned, and I learned fast. Doesn't mean I hate them for doing it. I imagine that one day I'll spank my kids when they royally fuck up too.
